Neighbourhood: Malá Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighbourhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighbourhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighbourhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.

Kampa Park Restaurant is ideally located by the river, offering picturesque views that could have been the perfect backdrop for a delightful dining experience. Unfortunately, our visit was marred by the service. Instead of the warm welcome we anticipated, we were met with discourteous responses from a waitress who seemed more interested in being anywhere but there. When inquiring about the restaurant's specialty, the curt reply to 'check the menu' was not only unhelpful but also dismissive, undermining the potential of a reputed establishment like Kampa Park. It was disheartening to encounter such apathy in what promised to be a fine dining setting.

Adding to the earlier discomfort, the restaurant's ambiance was as cold as the service. Upon politely asking if the heaters could be turned on due to the chill, the waitress suggested we should keep our jackets on instead. This response felt inconsiderate and inhospitable, especially since we expected Kampa Park to provide a cozy dining experience alongside their renowned culinary offerings. The lack of effort to accommodate a simple request for comfort was disappointing and added to an overall unsatisfactory visit.

I traversed the grounds of Kampa Park on the off chance someone might be playing the odd game of chess somewhere—but no such luck. The park itself is quite small, and I was disappointed in its upkeep—lots of families and dogs and small children, which surely contributed to litter and dirt I observed. I would certainly not seek this place out for a peaceful urban escape. I felt safe, but I would opt for Petrin any day.

Kampa park is on Kampa Island which is an island in the Vltava River. It is separated by the devils channel which fed the mills in the area. The river is in the Lesser Town / Mala Strana neighborhood.
The park was a bit bare when we were there as it was just changing from Winter to very early spring so it wasn't at its greenest.
Still, it was lovely to have a walk through and had a few things to see along the way. There was a lot of families in the area and it was nice to see locals out and about.

I’m not really sure what I was expecting in this park - maybe trees with green leaves, maybe a lush lawn, maybe clear views of the river. Well, it was none of these.

Plant life was sparse, the whole area looked dried out, and the river was completely obscured by high fencing. Add to that the collection of the incredibly ugly statues of Crawling Babies ….

It was certainly quiet enough, however, so I suppose that’s one plus.

Maybe it was the time of year (March) or the time of day (morning), but it was quite a disappointment.

I don’t think it’s worth a special trip just to see this park.

I played here as a child , now I come back as a tourist. Not much has changed over the years in this lovely park.

It was a calm oasis when only locals strolled through, moms with baby strollers, kids playing in the grass or snow . Even most of the benches survived the years.

Kampa is a small island between the Certovka stream and the Vltava river.
It stretches between the two bridges , Charles and Legii.

The Vltava side offers great views of the National Theater across, views of the swans and ducks ever present on the river.

There are quite a few restaurants and cafes here, in all price ranges and several small boutique hotels too.

I never miss coming back , I love it here .....

Located in the old town, it was 300 meters from our hotel so it was one of the first things seen in our tour scouring. We came across a beautiful park with a beautiful green, crossed by the Moldovan river where the ducks (and nutria !) They swam happily. You can also find, I don't know if fixed or periodic, street food stalls that have made the park a place for a fantastic outdoor aperitif. There are playgrounds where children can have fun in peace.

Kampa has been voted as one of the most beautiful city islands in the world. It’s located in the Lesser Town neighborhood within Prague. You can head here for some great views, art and a few surprises even!

Especially in Summer when it can be so hot and of course so overcrowded.
Charles Bridge is so often impossible to cross.
So many tourists (like us) filling it (swarming should I say) and taking the usual path between the Old Town Square to Mala Strana and the Castle.
So Brake the pattern and instead of walking yourself to exhaustion stop right there, right after crossing this bridge and just before getting to Mala Strana.
Take a short break and you'll see that you'll actually enjoy it much more than what you thought.

Take a quick look at the pictures that, as usual in my reviews, I have attached. You'll be able to build your opinion without relying only on this review (subjective as it always is).

You have there ...benches, grass to sit or lie down, and ... SHADE .
If you have a book all the better, make this break a longer one, if not, get closer to the bank and enjoy the superb view on the river and the old town across it ...

In short take your time, you're on vacation aren't you ?
Without paying attention to it you might walk 15, 20 km even more in a day and ending it completely exhausted (like us) ... not good !
So it is there ... Kampa Park more than appropriate for refilling you batteries ...
Or your stomach since you have also and as always in Prague pubs, restaurants, eateries .
You can also take one of the cruise on the Vlava river. It is right there when you go down from the bridge, the stairs leading to Kampa Park bring you to 2 different Cruise companies.
Which is also by the way a more than appropriate way to rest your legs (from the walk) and your soul (from the hustle bustle).

So as I wrote in my title ... Do yourself favor, and take a break in Kampa Park

I wrote a long review from our summer visit last year, this time we came back in September.
The weather was beautiful on the most part and it is fun to come back to the changing seasons. Always loved spending time here, it used to be easy as I lived for many years nearby. Growing up around here was magical.
I am just surprised that this little island is still not completely overrun by tourists. I guess everybody stays on Charles Bridge.

I love the slower pace here, the moms with the strollers, the kids playing, few enjoying a picnic on the grass.

The benches are the same, as years ago, the chestnut trees are taller, almost blocking the gorgeous views across the river.
On the Certovka stream side I noticed couple of new Cafes opened for business.
The swans still swim on the river nearby.

Last year there was a food festival held there, this year they had large poster collection on display, documenting the flood from some years back.

There are also several good hotels on Kampa, and Art Museum in The Sovovy Mlyny buildings.

I was glad to see Werichova vila restored and turned into museum. Opened for visitors. The new Cafe there is also a great addition . We enjoyed our visit there.

Kampa is and always will be my favorite part of Prague ...
