Our museum called Speculum Alchemiae, is situated in one of the oldest houses in Prague. There are secret alchemical laboratories from the 16th century in the museum underground that were built for the king Rudolf II. The alchemists of that time used to prepare elixirs in there. The museum building also includes a shop, where equal elixirs can be bought. These elixirs are prepared under strict conditions according to their original recipes which have been found here. Newly, we also offer a unique tour of magical places in Prague which are connected with the Speculum Alchemiae museum. The guided tour includes the Prague Castle, Vysehrad, Charles Bridge, Old Town Square, and the museum. At these places you learn about many amazing legends and mythological stories associated with the so-called Prague Magical Triangle.

We visited this museum as part of a larger tour of Prague. The tour takes about 30-ish minutes and it is very small but completely fascinating. Any scientist will appreciate the history of alchemy and history buffs will appreciate the ties this place has to...More

One ticket will get you a 30 min. guided tour with a knowledgeable guide, who will show you the "humble" origins of chemistry as it was carried out by the ruler of the kingdom. Don't expect a scientifically rigorous speech on alchemy, but rather to...More

I found this place fascinating - it is tucked away in Josehof. Primarily because they are the actual labs used for alchemy used in the 16th century, but had been sealed up for 300-odd years and then rediscovered following renovations to the building. We had...More

Don’t expect a full education in chemistry in this museum. Sorry students..... But one gets an insight into the beginnings of chemistry and the medieval faith. A short travel into past times, when chemistry was still something outlawed. This is something for the dreamers and...More

This is a quick tour, interesting and historical. Its significance starts in 1532 with Rudulf II. There are many great restaurants in the area and it's worth popping in for the experience.
