Neighbourhood: Malá Strana (Little Quarter)
Malá Strana is one of the oldest and the most beautiful neighbourhoods in the city. Nestled underneath Prague Castle it was once a part of the Kings route taken by future kings on their way to coronation - originating in the Old Town, crossing Charles Bridge and leading to Saint Vitus Cathedral. Cobblestone streets are lined with picturesque medieval houses, remarkable palaces, churches, kitsch shops and restaurants. Do not hesitate to turn a corner into any narrow street. You will suddenly find yourself in a calm and charming neighbourhood full of hidden gardens, parks with peacocks, fruit trees and ponds. As the neighbourhood is a home to Czech Parliament and many ministries, you can also run into well-dressed officials. If you are thirsty or hungry, it is the right place to be. Restaurants offer delicious traditional food and of course, the best Czech beers.

Church of Our Lady beneath the Chain
Oct. 2019
This church used to belong to the Hospitallers, a part of larger Johannite monastery complex. The church gets its name from a chain that was used to seal the gates of the commandery blocking boats for the payment of custom duties. The church is much diminished in size, but there are two large towers at the entrance to the courtyard, testifying to its former military and administrative use. Past that is a medium sized courtyard leading to the entrance of the church.
The exterior is an eclectic mix spanning the historical styles of Europe, from Romanesque to Gothic, and Renaissance, although the interior of the church is decorated in a Baroque style. The interior is quite small and spartan except for the high altar which is richly decorated. To be honest, I didn’t think it was worth going out of the way to visit.

A surprise

Stumbled upon this beautiful tiny church with Maltese connection one Sunday. The 10am service had 4 people in the congregation and 3 priests/servers. There's a classy shop on the premises which sells lovely glass art. The story of the medieval church is that it's unfinished but recently partly restored. Definitely worth a short visit for some tranquility.

Church Of Our Lady Beneath The Chain ( Kostel Panny Marie Pod Řetězem ) is yet another beautiful church that is to be found in the wonderful Mala Strana district ( Lesser Town ) .
Constructed by 1158 this fantastic looking twin towered church has over the last couple of years seen some serious renovation but it's payed off,the church looks magnificent, it's evocative entrance leads you into a cute courtyard, originally of Gothic design ,in the 16th century the Baroque facade was added by architect Carlo Lurago ,the church interior is awesome, on this visit I couldn't gain access but I have been inside on numerous occasions over the years and the interior is well worth looking at.
The location on a street called Lazenska Ulica is superb ,in the heart of the Mala Strana district which is in an area of outstandingly beautiful architecture, it's also close to the John Lennon Wall.
Well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to Prague .

This small church is close to Charles Bridge. It was closed when I visited, and unfortunately there were no sign with opening times. I could only sneak through the doorglass, and it's a beautiful church. However, the best thing is the courtyard in front of it - it has such a peaceful small garden, it's like being in the countryside with no city noise around you.

Very Pretty Courtyard ....
Sep. 2017 • Couples
A very pretty courtyard walk leads to the front door of this church. Always imagined wedding here. A small intimate church, but a grand entrance.
There was still some work going on and the church was closed.
The church is just around the corner from the Lennon wall...

The Church Of Our Lady Beneath The Chain is a beautiful church that is located on one of the maze of streets that make up the beautiful Mala Strana district ( little Quarter ).
We visited this church last year but as the church was undergoing restoration work we couldn't really appreciate what a lovely church this is but on our latest visit on a beautiful warm and sunny day we could really see what a little gem this is.
The renovation work carried out last year is sympathetic and the church exterior looks awesome,I took some wonderful photos of not just the church but the stunning architecture to be found in the area.
The Church Of Our Lady Beneath The Chain is found on a street called Lazenska,it's not to far from the superb John Lennon Wall.
Well worth checking out.

Set back in small courtyard this is a pretty church with a baroque interior

You enter the church through a courtyard that may have been a building at one point based on the walls surrounding it. The interior of the church is pretty with smooth walls and nice decorations. The chapel was blocked by a gate and we could not enter to look at the interior more closely.
