Pretty walk around the park. Great views and I bet it’s spectacular in summer. Easy to reach by public transport. Play park for kids. Few cafes but you have to pay to use toilets

Off the beaten track and about a 5/10 minute walk from the metro station, it is well worth the visit and time spent to walk around the grounds. It is an old castle alternative to the main castle and it is set on top of a hill, more of a fortress than a castle though. I was here in November and the views form the top over the river are good and I can imagine the place to be very busy in summer months with the weather being better then.
There are plenty places to sit and relax and it was very peaceful and relaxing

A former fortress located on a hill, on the bank of the Vltava river. From its walls you have a wonderful view of the city. There are also some objectives to visit within the walls of the former fortress: first of all, the Basilica of St. Peter and St. Paul, very beautiful, Vyšehrad Cemetery, where are burried many famous Czech citizens, such as Antonín Dvořák, Bedřich Smetana or Karel Čapek, Gorlice-an underground huge hall.
There are also several cafes and a small open-air amphitheater.

Vysehrad has a very rich history. The expansive views from the top of the hill are quite different than the view from the Castle. The beautiful view of the winding riverVltava and the bridges. The view of the Castle in the distance.
The Sts . Peter and Paul Basilica is worth visiting. The Cemetery on the side of the church is one of the most peaceful, tranquil places in Prague.
Visit to Vysehrad is usually recommended to visitors with more than 3days stay in Prague.
It is easy to combine the visit with a stop at the Dancing House, it is on the same route, if you choose to take the scenic walk by the river.

A bit out of the way from all the tourists and a good view from the side. Unfortunately we got stranded here as the tour bus didn't come back around for it's last sweep.

I have visited only the surroundings of the castle. The entry was 250 czk as far as i remember. There is a terrace near the castle but you only can pay with cash ( czk and euro). Also for the toilet is not provided a card payment :(

Close to city center, at an elevation, with offering of greenery, great views of the river, some fabulous sculptures. There is as well a museum, an art gallery. The views below are nice, and many photo sooting opportunities are available There is no fees for visiting this general area.

In Vyšehrad there are statues of the Czech artist J.V. Myslbek, among them is a sculpture of "Zaboj and Slavoj". These two men were at the head of the Slavs in the fight against foreign enemies.

Is there parking at / nearby to the castle? How do I go about to arrange a tour of the castle?

Vyšehrad tours you can book online.
Parking is possible onsite and it costs aprox. 2€/hour. Public transport is very good it is only 2 metro stops from Museum/ Wenclav sq./center with frequent service.

Does the first casemates tour begin right at the opening time (for example 9:30am) or at the top of each hour (10am for the first official tour start time)?

There is a separate TripAdvisor page for “The Vysehrad Casemates” and you should look and ask your question there (sorry, TripAdvisor does not allow me to post links). Hope that helps, sorry I don’t know the answer either.

Hi,I am going to Prague for just 3 days and sort of planned to go to Vysehrad on the first morning, but I have some concerns about if it may take too much time and energy.I have other sightseeing planned for the rest of the day. Can anyone tell me how vast and with how much walking it is. Is the walk from Vysehrad Metro long and steep? If you limit the visit what is best to see and do here. In all is it a must visit. Thanks

I didn’t spend that much time there, I walked the cemetery, I saw the gothic cave and quietly came in the last bit of service! It is totally worth it to go and see! The hill is steep, but if I can do it seriously anyone can!! If you’re worried about time use the trams from the city, I think it’s number 7tram
is it possible to walk through this park in the morning around 8 am? I found it opens at 9-30 am, but we don't plan to have any excursions, just walk

Hi Palak A, whole area is free. Paid are guided tours and Basilic entrance.
For tour booking and more information I recommend to visit official Vyšehrad website. (just google "official vysehrad website" - sadly Tripadvisor forbid links so I cant paste it for you).

Forget all about tram unless you love climbing steep hills, it is a fortress after all. Take metro to the station VYSEHRAD (pronounced "veshehrad" walk straight through stroller path to greenery along villas on your right towards main street with both way car traffic, there towards right you will see the entrance in form of fortress gate. Don't be afraid to ask any one for directions, or to follow wheel chairs or some one disabled as there is an institution for them since 19th century.

There are the old ammunition bunkers, under the fortress, where the original statues from the Charles Bridge are stored. They are on the local map of the park. I recall they were on the North side, near the entrance. There is also the road tunnel through the hill, down by the river.
There is a really long road tunnel on the West side of the river. It goes under the whole castle complex / Petin hill. Check a road map for that one.
