About
The most significant square of historical Prague, it was founded in the 12th century and has been witness to many historical events. In addition to the Old Town Hall and the Church of Our Lady before Týn, the square is dominated by the Baroque Church of St Nicholas, the Rococo Kinský Palace, the Gothic House at the Stone Bell and the monument to Jan Hus. In the pavement of the square are memorial stones marking the execution of 27 Czech lords in 1621, and the Prague meridian.

Neighbourhood: Stare Mesto (Old Town)
One of the oldest neighbourhoods in town represents the medieval heart of Prague. It’s no surprise it is bustling with tourists every time of day. Križovnický square, overlooking Charles Bridge with Prague Castle in the background, is probably the most beautiful square in the city. Its unique historical atmosphere of gothic houses and churches, cobblestone streets and squares, and stone towers blend together with the modern era. A vast array of bars, restaurants, dance clubs, international brand shops, galleries and hotels bring life to the old city. With its charming and picturesque cobblestone streets, the nightlife and parties will surely be unforgettable.

Lovely gothic architecture and an interesting elegant (but somewhat over-rated in my opinion) astronomical clock. The hourly "pageant" of the apostles is brief and it's a good job it's free. But the square has a lovely European ambiance. Remeniscent of Germany and Austria, and not unlike Spain if you forget the millions of cobbles! It's a very nice space. I didn't eat there as I was warned all the eateries and bars are seriously over-priced compared to backstreet ones, but the restaurant terraces did look inviting and good for people-watching; and plenty of horse-drawn carriages too.

If you haven't been to this square have you been to Prague at all?
This is definitely a must go/must see place in Prague and nobody should avoid it.
It does get quite crowded but it is the best.

The Old Town Square is easily one of the best squares in the world, with stunning buildings and a brilliant atmosphere. This is the heart of the city and a must not miss, it is an incredible place to spend some time especially with a cold pint of Czech beer!

Loved it here! Such a pretty, traditional area with lovely architecture and a traditional feel to it. Lots of places to eat, and lovely little streets to explore. Definitely worth a visit, we found ourselves here a few times during our stay in Prague.

Very nice square with the clocktower. It also was not as crowded as we were warned it would be, maybe because of covid no idea.

Please beware of the old Prague ham stalls. They will rip you off, it’s daylight robbery!!
These people sell food by weight and pile food on. They are absolute scammers and the food is not even very nice. I was ripped off sadly and it does reflect on the rest of your time away.
Just be warned, if people voted with their feet and didn’t purchase from them, they would have to take their dirty money and dirty food away! I’m so shocked that these people get away with these scams. Surely the authorities should do something.

I'd like to visit both the Old Town Square and Charles Bridge early in the morning before they get crowded, so I can take some uncrowded photos. Would it be best to visit Old Town Square earlier or Charles Bridge earlier to take best advantage of lack of crowds (I'd be visiting both the same morning, just need to figure out the best order). Also how early is a good time to show up? Being there for the clock show won't be necessary as we'll see it another day. This is mainly for basic photography, possibly including sunrise if I make it that early in September (sunrise is close to 7am). Thanks!

The photos from Charles Bridge should be beautiful, especially when it’s quiet. To be certain, It probably is best to go there first and then on to Old Square. Before 8 a.m. the Square should not be too crowded either. Prague is beautiful, I hope you have a wonderful time, just as we did.

I want to be near the Christmas markets but we don’t mind a walk either. Can anyone give me any insight. Also I am sceptical as I have been told it’s just full of stag and hen dos. Can anyone help Thank you

Pozdrawiam:)
