Neighbourhood: Nove Mesto (New Town)
Nearly 700 hundred metres long, Wenceslas Square represents the most frequent and buzzing crossroads of the city. The National Museum in the upper part of the square watches over your spending spree in countless shops and retail stores lining the entire square, which ends at Na Příkopě, the most famous shopping street. When tired or broke, you can explore the city's underpasses, which can take you to the Old Town or to the courtyards of art nouveau houses with secret gems of greenery, white benches and rose bushes that provide unexpected peace in the midst of the city. Be sure to pay a visit to the traditional cafés, classic Czech pubs, cinemas and theatres. National Theatre near the river has a lot to offer to foreigners. Go to the river bank and enjoy live music and drinks while watching a sunset behind Prague Castle.

This is an interesting free-standing bell tower that’s been around since the 1th century as the bell tower of the Church of St. Henry and Kunhuta, but now hosting an observation deck, a restaurant and whisky shop (don’t ask). The tower is a landmark of the city and is of a Neo-Gothic design. It looks good and worth visiting if you have time, especially if you’re arriving into Prague central station, which is only 5 minutes walk away.

Of course there is much history in this free standing imposing church tower.
But during my years living in Prague the tower was not open for visitors and it steadily deteriorated.
Starting the reconstruction early in the nineties (most such places needed restoration after the communist regime fell) a self-supporting iron concrete structure was built inside the tower. Tower within the tower. It is equipped with air-conditioning and a high speed elevator. The young waiter in Zvonice restaurant kindly detailed the marvel of the latest engineering, before our dinner was served.
On the highest floor of the tower, there is a beautiful observatory. The room looks like an old attic living room, with all around windows offering wonderful views, especially gorgeous at night!
A Carillon is housed on this floor, it is coin operated and for 10,-Kc the bells play a random tune. So bring coins, something for young and old to enjoy:)
It was fun to go up there after finishing dinner in the restaurant Zvonice located in the tower just a floor below. The large bell called Marie - is hanging above tables in the restaurant.
Visit only the tower or combine the visit with the restaurant, either way it is a unique experience.
The restaurant Zvonice (I reviewed separately) is priced high, but it is a fine dining, excellent service experience and we think it is worth it.
So much so that we keep returning...
The Whiskey Bar on the ground floor of the tower is another unique place in Prague.
The friendly bartender is ready to educate. If you want a change from all the beer, give this bar a try ...

This tower has a great potential to be a fantastic 'attraction' in Prague. Perhaps because of its location, it is hidden from the major tourists traffic - it is often overlooked. It is not far from the Wenceslas square, but most tourists will not walk away in that direction towards the Jindrisska ( Henry's) street.
So what makes it interesting and worthwhile visiting?
Well, for one thing, there is an elevator, constructed at a great cost in this centuries old tower, so you can get some magnificent views from high up, without much effort. Certainly not a norm in Prague:)
The other reason must be the wonderful restaurant Zvonice that is located in the tower on the high floor - (7-8) for which I wrote a separate review. Fine dining, really nice for special occasion.
So, if you are strolling in the area of the Wenceslas Square and looking for a break in a place 'high up' , this may just be it.
We love it...

The tower has 10 stories accessible by an elevator. The elevator will take you to the 9th floor, then you will have to conquer few steps to the top where you can enjoy a very nice 360-degree view of Prague.
The ticket price also includes Henry's Tower exhibit on floor 6, Prague Tower Museum on floor 4, and a Galerie on floor 3. Bathrooms are available for free on floor 5. Part of the tower is also a very nice restaurant where on floor 7 but expect tourist pricing.

Probably one of the lesser known towers of Prague, but it's worth it.
It's not extremely high, but you can still get nice views from the top floor, and as it's not as well-known as some other towers, you have a bigger chance of having the place to yourself. (We visited in the evening, about 45 minutes before closing time, and we basically had the place for ourselves.)
After enjoying the views, descend by the stairs - almost every floor comes with something interesting. There's a restaurant (not tested), whiskey bar (not tested), various exhibitions about Prague towers (tested, and worth it).
If you find yourself with a spare hour or so, I'd recommend visiting this tower.

Elevator and whiskey. So here you have it.
There are many ancient towers throughout Prague, where you have to climb hundreds of steps. Here you can take an elevator to the top of the tower for a small fee. Definitely worth it.
Tired of drinking beer ? Yes, beer in Prague is fabulous - but just in case you feel like drinking whiskey - at the bar here, you can do it in style.
Henry's Bell Tower is definitely worth a visit - worth searching it out - just off Vaclavske namesti, away from the tourists path.
I have recommended dinner in the tower's restaurant to other travelers , as we have always enjoyed our dinners here.

Over the years, I’ve likely walked past Henry's Bell Tower (aka, the Tower of St. Henry) over 50 times while walking from Old Town Square to the Hilton Prague. Built in the 15th century, it is a nice neo-Gothic-style, stone bell tower. I find the inside to be more interesting. The group floor house a café and whisky bar. The building also contains exhibit rooms and a restaurant. Good views from the top, albeit, you many see a lot of roof tops of other buildings. The tower also contains nice museum exhibits.
Tower admission fee to go to the top is 120 Czech koruna. Best to go the first seven floors by elevator.

This tower is a must visit if you are whisky enthousiast.
It not only offers some of the best whisky's but also a nice selection of food as well as cigars. Apart from that the tower offers you some nice views over the city.

Well worth the entry fee to climb to the top of the bell tower. There is also an elevator. This was one of our favorite things to do. Views of Prague were enchanting with a Birdseye view of the city and rooftops. Go do it! We felt like we were in Mary Poppins or Fiddler on the Roof. Savor the artistry and skill. I loved looking out and seeing the slate roof up close. How did they apply those tiles so long ago to such a steeply pitched surface? And don’t miss seeing the rain gutter system out one of the little windows. How creative and whimsical is that? It made me wish it was raining just so I could watch the water dance down to the ground! You could enjoy cocktails or meals in one of the charming restaurants though I wouldn’t take children. Not crowded at all.
