I was in a private tour group. Me my wife and our great guide. As we had previously lived in the CR for about 2 years, the guide let us handle our own food etc. We di fine. Got what we wanted, it was fine and the meal and the beer was totally fine. This place was not cheap, but not super expensive. Def you are paying for the experience. My food came sans tartar sauce. I need it. I asked the first passing waitress, she said OK. after 5 minutes I saw our waiter and asked him and he said OK, We are eating deep fried cheese--if it cools, it is tire rubber, need to get it while it is hot, and it requires tartar sauce., A few minutes later, both showed up with tartar sauce. and looked at me disapprovingly. I think I might have been scolded, had I showed any understanding of Czech. My wife and our guide were Asian, they still are actually. I led the way and I think that is part of why we diot seated fast and received OK service. While seated we saw a saw a large tourist group of Japanese people. Young, old, healthy and teetering about. The staff was really dismissive or just ignored them. Some group stragglers showed up and clearly had no clue where to go (the group was in the interior) but staff just ignored them for the most part. Race relations is an issue, and racism is often on full display in the CR, but seeing it so starkly was troubling if unsurprising. I'd go here again, but would reconsider if traveling with my mostly Asian family.

If price matters, you should contact the brewery directly about getting a tour through them (http://www.eggenberg.cz/index.php?lang=en&page=home) ; the tour was half the price if we booked it through them directly rather than if we booked it through the tourist information center in the middle of town.

NOTE: if booking directly through them, make sure to find out what time they start the tour (it is different than those listed at the town information center). Also, make sure you get clear directions if walking, and leave yourself an extra 15 minutes to find the entrance .... the streets were a bit confusing to follow. Lastly, no matter how hot it is outside, bring a jacket or a longsleeve shirt with you for the underground portion of the tour (it gets quite cold where they ferment the beer).

That said, we had a fantastic time when we went in July '09 (yes I am a bit behind in my reviews). They started two tours at the same time; one was in Czech or German, while the other was in English. We took the English tour, and our guide was hilarious and knowledgable.....he was an elderly fellow who works as an archivist at the library, and was able to give us the full 411 on the brewery and keep us smiling the entire time. After the tour, we headed over to the restaurant portion of the brewery where we enjoyed a couple of their beers (one of them that was fully fermented yet --- they call it their "yeast beer"), and those were delicious. Prior to ordering the yeast bear, our tour guide let me taste some from the tap from the fermentation tanks themselves (picture attached).

We went on this tour at the last minute and we were just in time for the only english tour of the day at 11h00 ... Michael our guide was great and funny. We were a small group (6) so he had time to answer all of our questions.

After the tour, we went to the restaurant to taste... Great beer!!! and marvelous company... All 6 from our group sat together for nearly 1hr30 talking and tasting the great beer... It's a must to taste the smoked beer!!! Never had anything like it...

We had the best time with our new friends from Hungary and Australia!!!

Different amounts of entrancefees, we chose the one with the beverages and giftpack included. Our guide was a friendly gentleman, who gave us labels as a gifty. The language tours are in Czech, German or English. We took the German language. The brewery is very different from Budweiser brewery (as the Budweiser is a modern brewery), at the Eggenberg brewery they brew as ages ago, complete with a mediaval drainage system. The brewery is everywhere accesable, but normaly one is only to piek some minutes in the workersarea. When we were there, a machine was out of order and was fixed, so we were granted to walk trough this area (lucky us!). In the brewerypub is served delicious food and beverages. Don't miss out on this one...

I have already visited some breweries in Europe and I have to say that this one was the worst ever...
The guide spoke very badly English, therefore only some basic information was told the visitors.
The brewery is told to be renewed right now - nothing to see. It looks like that all the old and dirty machines and accessoires are unused and shown like in a museum and only tourists visit the factory.
The whole yard is a time trip back to the '80s.
Unforunately not even worth to pay CZK 130 (EUR 5) for it.

I was excited to see the details of the famous Czech beer brewing but on arriving at the tour entrance was met with a sign that there are no tours. Apparently they are doing some renovations so no tours for the rest of the year.

The Brewery tour is closed and a rather angry lady at the gate doesn't understand why a long string of people are still visiting the gate.

Closed for some weeks as the brewery is reconstructed. Yes, restaurant is still open, and you can by the beer in the shop local stores.

The Brewery website needs updating as still says tours available !!!

We just left this place, and we're not impressed with the fact that one, the service was terrible and two, food was less than mediocre.
We found this place in hopes of some great authentic craft beer, good atmosphere and a good meal.
What we got was
Beer with too much foam
Terrible service
And the meal was... "Mehh"
We started with the pickled sausage- okay, nothing to rave about, very small 'cold starter'. it was served with a basket of bread, but once the sausage was gone they took the entire basket of bread with them.
My boyfriend ordered the pork neck with a side of fried potato croquettes * the meat was just like a typical roast beef and not overly flavourful, while the croquettes were very bland.
I ordered the salad with tuna and egg, and a side of the potato dumplings. First the waitress (which we didn't have the same one the entire time we were in there) brought over the salmon from the menu with the rest of our meal and walked away, I waited to call over a wait staff for about 5-10 minutes and finally got someone to inform them that o revived the wrong meal, when my salad came I was pleasantly surprised that it was very tasty and fresh - it's not a lettuce salad though, is jam packed with veggies* ps the dumplings are more like slices of bread, but okay.

-$ we each got a beer, plus the cold starter, or meals with a side and it came to 410 crowns. So a fair price for the amount of food, plus the local beers.

overall the location and atmosphere are really cool, but the
brewery is closed for tours and the wait staff are very inattentive.

I found the proprietor or whomever was behind the counter, disgruntled and surly because I only wanted a soft drink. I was very sorry I'd gone there instead of somewhere else.

Take a tour of the brewery. The beer after is excellent. Bothe the modern beer and the traditional yeast beer are served in the pub. It is the only place you can get the yeast beer.
