About
Tourist railway and steam museum in the foot of the Tallarook Ranges, approximately one hour North of Melbourne CBD. The 2 foot (610 mm) railway has a 35 minute return train journey to 'Summit Station' with panoramic views of the whole of the Upper Goulburn Valley and beyond. After each train journey there is a guided tour of the steam museum, locomotive sheds and workshop. There is a kiosk, disabled facilities, fun for all ages and stages. Sunday there are trains at 11 am & 12 noon. Friday, Saturday & Monday there is one train (phone bookings only and minimum numbers apply). Phone Jennifer if you require more details or to make a booking 0407823739. We specialise in large groups on any day of the week by prior arrangement. We are generally closed on Christmas Day, New Years' Eve & New Years' Day & Good Friday and the month of June each year. Watch for the brown tourist signs at 7523 Goulburn Valley Highway, Kerrisdale (halfway between Seymour and Yea).

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a great time here. Andrew was really knowledgeable and informative. His helper Duncan was also very adept a demonstrating the equipment. Lots of interesting old working machinery.
The train ride is a must because at the top Andrew gives you more amazing information. There was a very tame lizard ( Heather Dragon, so Andrew says) and great views.
Have a cup of brewed coffee and a biscuit. Cheap at the price.
We stayed till all the others had gone and had a yarn with Andrew, Jennifer and Duncan. We felt really at home talking to them about all sorts of things.
This a must do if you have time on a Sunday. Remember to be there before the 11am train ride or you'll regret it.

My wife and I stayed at the Kerriisdale Cottage for two nights. Fantastic and met all our needs. The Railway museum and train ride was a real eye opener. Full credit to Andrew and Jenny for creating such a wonderful place. The workmanship on “Douglas” is a real eye opener to what one man’s ambition can achieve. Thank you both for a great stay, train trip and talk on the history and surrounding country side of Kerriisdale. We have already spread the word and will be back with more friends.

We phoned and booked our carriage for 4. Our sons are 3 year olds. Andrew and Jennifer are wonderful hosts. We brought our tickets and the waited for the train to leave, was allowed photos in the engine carriage and the kids were engaged. Was a lovely family outing.

Occasionally, we all stumble across hidden gems around Victoria. Kerrisdale Mountain Railway is one of those. Located just out of Seymour, KMR brings out the kid in all of us. From the time you arrive, owners Andrew and Jennifer go out of their way to make you feel at home and provide a wonderful interactive experience. Thousands of hours of careful restoration has resulted in a museum and railway experience that is fun and educational for people of all ages. How many places can kids be taught and allowed to actual change the tracks of an old steam train? Breathtaking views just add to the place. Thoroughly recommend.

Kerrisdale Mountain Railway is a great little gem, tucked away in the treetops. The gorgeous trains, grounds, track and museum are lovingly maintained and run by Andrew and Jennifer Forbes, who gave us a great welcome and lots of history about the trains. Andrew is passionate about his subject so if you're train mad, don't miss this.
Their website has beautiful photos of the short and scenic train trip, and details of events and prices.

A gem hidden in the middle of rolling hills.
Great spot for family, kids and even adults like us to enjoy the beauty and take in the serenity of the hills, red gum trees and antiques with history which Andrew is very happy to share.. Found out the history about "Furphy".
Would highly recommend and we will be back in Feb'20 to ride the steam engine.

This is the private passion of Andrew & his wife.
If you at all interested in the engineering & The most accommodating couple to personally show you through every facet of the museum , the work shop & ride the train to view the surrounding country side this is a must see.

3 of us stopped by on a Sunday motorbike ride & spent a good two hours at this hidden attraction.
You wont believe what the passion of an engineer & his wife can achieve.

This was an lesson in Engineering excellence, Steam power, Motors, Local area, Landscape, History all rolled in to one.

A must see.
