Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

I was quite impressed by the slate roof and sheer size of construction for a small town ! The crypt was a unexpected surprise too. Kids were happy to play ball and tennis in the lawns while we did some wine tasting at the nearby Cellars . So for a family destination, it was win win for everyone !

The history of the Jesuits in Clare starts here in this beautiful stone church. Make sure you have an experienced tour guide who can share the history of the Jesuits contribution to wine making in Clare. We visited with Clare Valley Tours -our tour guide Dave was extremely interesting and answered all our questions -great value tour.

Did the tour and the full wine tasting. Great experience. Learnt the history on the tour and loved it. Very impressed with the wines and ordered a case sent home. Lovely walking through old vines, viewing great architecture and learning about Jesuit history and wine making. A part of Australian history.

The church and grounds are lovely with grottos and even a crypt. Really enjoyed wandering around. So well kept and plenty of parking, then there’s the winery. Really worth a look.

This church is in terrific condition, looks like it was build yesterday.
Built in a more simple style it is very elegant.
Set within the Seven Hills wine estate it has very peaceful surrounds.
Worth a visit, especially if you are at the estate to taste a bit of wine.

Almost upon getting to Clare we got recommendations from everybody to visit "the Monastery". So apparently in the opinion of many this is the most important attraction in the area. It is also the last Jesuit vineyard in Australia. The last Jesuit winemaker retired several years ago but we heard he was still supervising or overseeing the team of lay people. The church is on the grounds of vineyard and winery. The location is unique and scenic. The church appears simple but beautiful. The winery initially produced sacramental wine.

An impressive church with a crypt underneath where the early Jesuits were entombed. Fascinating. The Church is a striking piece of architecture. Add to this that Saint Mary MacKillop spent time here on retreat, her younger brother studied for the priesthood here for a time, and that Julian Tennison-Woods who began the Sisters of St Joseph with Mary, completed his seminary training in the adjoining building. The early educative role of this site for colonialists who travelled by train to Sevenhill is significantly entwined with St Aloysius where many leaders of SA were formed.

We headed to the Sevenhill winery for a quick wine tasting knowing it had historical significance but didn't realise how interesting the property was.
The weather was wet so after a quick wine tasting we left but returned the next morning to take a self guided tour of the property.

Allow at least an hour to stroll through the area. The church was beautiful.
