Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Another small castle that you can visit in 20 minutes or so. Unfortunately, they built a modern visitor center right in the middle of the castle which ruins the vibe. I have no idea why they’d do that. Otherwise, it’s fun to explore.

Portugal does a fine line in ruined castles and restored palaces. The small castle at Lindoso is no exception, but it's in better shape than many and is well maintained. There's also an interesting exhibit about the history of human settlement in the area (dating back to pre-Roman times) although it's mostly in Portuguese.

It’s an interesting castle if only because it epitomises the Portuguese attitude towards health and safety. Great fun.

Lindoso village and the castle at its center are set in beautiful scenery and are well worth at least an overnight. We stayed in a beautiful renovated B&B apartment facing the castle and the famous 18-19th century corn cribs. There are other B&B houses/apartments for rent in the village. We enjoyed walking in the foothills behind the village and down to the river and dam. There is also a very good restaurant (open 7 days a week) at the entrance to Lindoso and a small cafe. Not much else but fresh mountain air, peace and tranquility.
Lindoso is an easy car trip from most northern Portugal towns. You can also take a bus to Arco de Valdevez and catch either the 1130 or 1730 buses to Lindoso from the same bus station. If you stop off in Ponte da Barca and then catch the bus going to Lindoso (comes from Arcos) you have to walk across town to the bus stop. The return buses from Lindoso leave at 0720 and 1320,

You can walk round the Castelo for free and then go inside for €1.50.
Worth spending the money as the views improve and you get a great panoramic view of the granaries - Look it up!

A small castle that is easy to walk around and has a small museum in ‘the keep’ (watch tower). Is located beside grain stores which are very picturesque!

We had a lovely time just wandering about here. The castle is not huge but quite interesting and has an archaeological exhibition within it. The main event is the grain stores outside, quite an unusual feature. It's a beautiful location and a photographer's paradise, birds and wildlife galore. Not ideal for anyone with mobility issues but the drive up the mountain is worth doing for the views and the walk around the area.

The Medieval castle of Lindoso belongs to the “Viana do Castelo Region”, and is very close to the Spanish border, and from there the purpose of the castle was to vigilante. It should be dating from the year 1258 and enlarged into the year 1278.All together a nice location, you can drive by car until the foot of the hill, and the last 200 meters you can walk, there is also into the castle a small expo area to visit, for the rest you can walk within the castle walls, there is no furniture into the castle. Also from the castle walls you have spectacular views over the “Granaries of Lindoso” the next door location to visit, all this makes it worth to visit Lindoso.

OK, the surrounding area is really great, and the castle is actually not bad, but they could do something to attract more visitors, especially those who are not fluent in Portuguese. The castle is small, but the 1€50 entrance fee can't buy you a coffee in Belgium, and we didn't feel like paying too much. But the displays in the tower, although interesting, were only in Portuguese... Anyway, it was a nice break, and don't forget the dozen or two of espigueiros next to the castle: picture time
