Founded by the local nobility at the end of the 16th century, the Real Maestranza maintains a horse-riding school and is also the builder of an impressive bullring, in the centre of the romantic town of Ronda, near Malaga and the Costa del Sol. In modern times, the principal activities are devoted to the conservation of its unique historical and artistic heritage. It has gained a deserved reputation for the recovery of archives, works of art, libraries and original documents relating to its history. The bullring is open to the general public all year round and the visit includes the Bullfighting Museum, the Royal Harness Collection and the Antique Firearms Collection.

Had to visit this oldest bull ring in Spain having experienced bull fighting when I lived in Spain as a child. A short walk on outer end of Ronda town, Visited the Museum brought back memories of the pomp and pageantry that goes into the Bull fights. Apparently this bull ring has the largest footage as a ring(sand area) but... More

Well as having differing views of the sport of bullfighting this was a good place to get more information about the activity. The bullring with the adjacent area made a good place to understand the layout. Also the museum had a decent exhibition helping us understand more. Most places are open for visiting. At the entrance you'll find a souvenir... More

This is a wonderful place to visit. We took the bus from Fuengirola and it is quite a ride. You climb 2470 feet to the town and the view itself is fascinating. We had 4 and a half hours and managed to see what we came to see and had a fantastic lunch ar Restaurane Jerez. The bull ring is... More

Take the audio guide to understand the background to bull fighting and the bull ring. Whether you agree with this activity or not this is well worth a visit. The museum display of elaborate harness is quite stunning. No photography allowed unfortunately. We went early and we're able to watch young students learning the art of training horses in the... This bull fighting arena was a pleasant surprise, it look quite modest outside but it's really beautiful inside. The arena itself is one of the biggest in the world. There is a nice museum inside the arena building about bull fighting with a lot of equipment and another area for old guns & weapons.

A very practical and "what you see is what you get" look at one of the "isms" of Spain's culture - bullfighting. You get to see where the bulls are prepared, the chutes they travel to the ring, and ultimately you get to stand in the ring where the action takes place. You can honestly feel the history for those... More
