Avoid the high-cost Rhine or Moselle river cruises--just get a car rental out of Frankfurt and base your trip travels in beautiful Cochem (with its own castle overlooking the quaint town) along the Moselle. Plan day drives to nearby castles like Eltz or south to...More

We decided to take the long scenic way to reach the Castle, via train and hike. We took the train to Moselkern station, and from there walked for about 1.5 hours through the old, quaint town of Moselkern, along the Elzbach river, pass some residential...More

After having visited many castles in Germany, this one is different. It has been in the same family for 33 generations. Instead of perched on a hillside like many, it is in a peaceful valley surrounded by the river.

This neat looking castle offers a guided tour of the insides, which retains lots of original old furniture and things (but strictly no photos because it is a museum!). There's also a 'treasury' museum of weapons and silverwork (but it seems you can take photos...More

Such a beautiful grand castle. I have never seen anything like it. They offer a little shuttle bus that takes you down/up the steep hill to the castle. They have restaurants with delicious food and a great view of the mountains. It was 10 euro...More

Great little walk that unfortunately took us longer than it should have... Google maps took us on an alternative (and longer) path. Well worth it. Nice walk. Great castle.

Be aware that outside of the summer season (may-october) the bus from downtown Moselkern does not run, so a 5 km walk or 36 EUR taxi ride each way. Shuttle bus from parking lot run, but charges a fee. Tour in English was Great, but...More

We used google maps to get us to the car park which was very accurate. Once at the car park the two routes are signed and there is a person at the car park who can also assist you.
