- happytripper84Mudgee, Australia12 contributionsLovely visitMade our way to the lovely Pieter Van Gent yesterday to see what was new. The staff were so friendly and made us feel right at home. The white and pink ports were a standout ! Day was made by a visit from the cellar door cat, Tom.Visited October 2023Travelled with friendsWritten 7 October 2023

Wonder on in and sit amongst the old barrels and try a glass, do a tasting or ask for recommendations. Friendly staff and cosy, shady spots to sit. Would be stunning in Winter also. Clearly an amazing host, Jamie did our tasting and was very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed the Muller, a variety we had never tried before. My wife bought a selection of sweet and fortified wines, very happy with our visit. Would recommend.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 24 August 2024

This was one of my favourite wineries in Mudgee. The cellar is so unique and something you dont see every day in Australian wineries. We mainly tried reds and they are fantastic. The girl from Germany that served us was nice and friendly, unlike customer service in some other wineries.

A fabulous find. Authentic setting, sitting around the oak barrels, made for an ideal start. Silke, the friendly assistant guided us through the tastings. $5 pp for lots of tastings and a dish of nibbles. Highlights were the wide array of ports. You won’t be able to leave without taking one home! A great experience!

Kicked off our winery tour (self guided) at PVG's. First impressions count with me, so to be greeted by the very handsome and friendly Tom (PVG's cellar cat) sealed the deal.
We were welcomed into the tasting room, which is just amazing, by Clive, who got us settled in for a fantastic tasting session with Ellie.
What fun we had, tasting all the amazing tipples PVG had to offer. Standouts for me were the 2021 Verdelho, Mudgee Pipeclay White Port and the Italian Vermouth - I purchased all three to take home.
I'd highly recommend Pieter van Gent Winery & Vineyard and look forward to visiting again.

Loved everything about this place. Tasting the wines among the huge old barrels gave an added ambiance. Wines were good but it was the ports we loved most (although not officially labelled port due to not being made in Duoro Portugal). Friendly knowledgeable service and the nuts to snack on during the tasting were a nice touch. $5 tasting fee was worth it

We visited in a group of 12 last weekend. Due to covid, we were required to be seated for the tasting but that was a real positive. Clive was fantastic, good humoured and helpful.
I would not visit Mudgee without a trip out to PVG. Wines are great but it's the ports that are the show stopper. The Liqueur Muscat is divine. Clive described it as "Christmas cake in a glass" - so true.
We will definitely be back!

Pieter Van Gent was the first stop off on our weekend touring Mudgee wineries. We were served by BJ who was exceptional! Knowledgeable, charming and incredibly entertaining - she went out of her way to make sure we had an awesome experience. Nothing was too much. Highly recommended!

From the moment you step foot into the wine tasting area with the huge casks you know this will be good. We were walk ins and were made very welcome. A standard flight of six wines personally chosen by us and attended to by two lovely staff. Would recommend! Oh and the wine was really nice too!
