Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Nice pedestrian bridge just outside the town walls. Very pleasant to walk to the other side for a drink and there is also a small park down by the river. There is not a lot of things to do in this town but I’d recommend finding 1hr for a stroll across and a drink

In fact all of Badajoz is for the afternoon! We have been staying in Vila Vicosa Portugal. My daughter has never been to Spain and asked to go here. During the Peninsular Wars the castle proved a real problem for Wellington and, having seen Elvas thought it would be nice to go. Web information is very muddled. Correct, current information is - there are no buses apart from a Friday so forget the 8558 timetable it’s completely wrong. The Friday bus takes 3 hours and the one coming back returned before the other arrives so forget it. There is 1 train per day from Elvas, at 12.51, and one return train, at 15.24 (Portuguese time 16.24 Spanish time). It’s only 2 euros per person each way. But beware, there is nothing open at all, no people, very few cafes, no taxis anywhere and a few buses but no timetables. It’s quite a walk from the station but if you like walking just walk straight down the road and you reach the old bridge over the Guardiana. We should have turned left after the bridge to the castle and that might have been better but we wanted food so kept straight in. Shops shut at 2pm to 5pm and we struggled to find a cafe (deciding the ones on the road from the station being univiting) eventually found food but nothing else so walked back to the station in the heat. Also the drains smelt, very off putting, streets quite dirty - a far cry from clean Portugal where the sewers do not smell.

I don't know how one finds out the schedule, but we were able to go inside on a Sunday afternoon. It is quite interesting and it tells you the history of the gate which made it more interesting than just seeing it from the outside.

You really have to walk into the city through this magnificent gate/archway. It has two big towers and the coat of arms of Charles V on one side of it. The decoration is worth taking some time to look at too. It may not be much in some ways, but it is the symbol of Badajoz and worth seeing.

we stopped in Badajoz on our way from Lisbon to Salamanca for a coffee. Had a wonderful time with a quick tour of this beautiful, clean and friendly little town. Took a photo at the Iconic Puerta de Palmas. only wish we could have visited longer.

It's an old city door located near the river. It's worth a visit since it's free and you will walk/drive past it anyway.

These are easy to visit as they are on a main street in Badajoz right by the river. It is just a great place for a picture or two while you are checking out other sites in Badajoz.

It's beautiful however not much of an attraction as it's just simply old doors to the city and nothing else.

Monumental gate (16th century) which was the main entrance to the city coming from Portugal or from Caceres. Alongside the Vauban walls of the city, it forms an architectural ensemble of great interest.

The lighting work (especially during the new year celebration) makes this gate very beautiful and stunning in the night.
