Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

It was a delightful day.
An early start to catch the 8.30am Ferry from Brooklyn Wharf.
A group of Bushwalking friends walked up the road from the Ferry.
Choice Point occurs when the road forks.
Whichever way you go the views are marvellous. Around the shoreline, up Riverview Road, it's a delight to circumnavigate the Island.
Refreshments at the Wharf Cafe before returning to the mainland for de-brief and lunch.
All great!
Good exercise.

Lovely step away from busy everyday traffic onto the island's peace and quiet. No cars, only bird sounds! Leafy and tropical easy walk along the main road with side tracks to the beach spying waterfront humble abodes. Could see myself devouring books on my back deck or just lapping up lots of rest. Dine at the local club or cafe on the marina. Browse through the extensive book library whilst you wait for the return of the cute ferry with an informative and friendly ferry master. A well kept secret.

The Ferry ride over was very nostalgic. Loved the little wooden ferry. It’s easy to walk around Dangar island and the beach is cute with all the little beach houses. The cafe at the Jetty was nice had a lovely atmosphere.
some local paintings on the wall. Dangar island would be an awesome artist retreat.
There is a bowling club you can have meals & drinks and they had some awesome entertainment advertised. The Jetty area is cute.

Its an island, in a scenic location, but there is no suitable place to actually view the scenic waterways!! a rather scary/old ferry connecting the mainland with the island, mind you REALLY scary ferry, as if its going to sink any minute!!
There is not much worth visit on the island, there is a grocery/shop/cafe own by a bloody rude person, as soon as you take camera/iphone out, he will run towards you and asked you not to take pic of his shop/stuff selling in his shop and the food/drinks and claim they are all copyright!
Creepy place to visit, don't bother!

Not many choice on this small island, so we naturally picked this café, food/coffee was ok, then when I decided to photo with the friends I came with, the café owner came out and said "hey we make special food here, and I don't want you to take photo of our food ", what a creepy , weird request~! we were taking pic of ourselves...not the food.
Never being insult like this, never again, don't bother visit this cafe

We are now resident on the Island and have hosted many visitors-friends,family and associates.Just take your time and wander around, enjoy the walk round the island, the views and the beach, which has one of the best outlooks anywhere straight across Broken Bay.If you want to know more ask the DangarIslandHistoricalSociety.com for a 'Then and Now Tour.'We often take visitors to the Bowlo for Sunday lunch and a go at bowls afterwards.

About 30 min away from Sydney by car, Brooklyn is a great launch pad for fishing on the Hawksbury River around Dangar Island, Mooney Mooney, Sandy Bay and Porto Bay. You can rent a small fishing boat from the local operators. I've been to this area many times and caught a variety of fish from 80cm flathead, 60 cm jewfish, to bream, yellowtail, etc around Dangar island.

The ferry service across to the Island is from Brooklyn was efficient and reasonably priced (adults $8.10 each way, cash only). They stick to the time table and we thought that the service was very well run.
But there is not a great deal to do on the Island. Sure you can walk around the island and it is pretty. You do get some reasonably good views of the water (mainly through the trees) and there is plenty of bird life on the island.
You can get a beer at the bowling club (opens at 12 on Sundays) and the setting is quite nice, but certainly nothing special. There is also a cafe and store near the Ferry terminal. I don't think that there are any other cafe/restaurant options on the island (but I may be wrong).
The island is a nice enough place to visit but I certainly don't recommend going too far out of you way to do so. I certainly don't see any reason to go back.

Today I visited Dangar Island
I drove from Penrith to Brooklyn parked the car caught the ferry across to Dangar Island. The fare is Seniors, concession holders $3.50 each way else $7.00 each way for a 15 min ferry ride.
It takes about an hour to walk around the island all 3.3 ks of it .A lot of the places are holiday rentals but the residents who live here did not stir till after 10.A lot of the properties seemed in disrepair and terribly run over with the vegetation. And quite dangerous to access some properties but some where at the other end of the spectrum with easy access and looked after.
The café has just reopened by the new owners and hopes to be fully functional in about 8 weeks but do not let this deter you I had the bacon and egg wrap and although I thought a bit overpriced was delicious. Tea ,coffee and pies (home made by owner) and sandwiches are available but no EFTPOS or card facilities at this time. If you are there between 9 and 10am there is BBQ breakfast not sure of cost from the café.
There are public toilets and a bowling club if you would prefer a drink with lunch but it consisted of one big room with the bowling green seeing better days.
The island comes with cats which did surprise me but also accounted for the lack of birds I did however see a kookaburra and so many minor birds. The café owner asked if I had seen the yellow parrot no !!!! properly eaten by the cats.
Dogs are everywhere and are allowed if on a lead although the ones I saw where off lead.
Dangar Island comes with its own Ambulance and Fire Brigade Services as well as a resident run buggy service to access the residences.
Very picturesque views with some landmarks not able to be sighted so I think that the Hawkesbury Council should update the info.
Worth a visit if you are in the area but not worth a day trip as nothing to keep you there once you have walked the island
Would I go again properly not but would gladly show overseas visitors as another side to how we Australians live

Dangar Island is a lovely little 'step back in time' place...lovely little cafe on the waterfront and a great Bowls Club up the back. Take a walk around the island and enjoy the serenity. We are lucky enough to have our own boat to get there but there is a ferry that goes to the island. Much easier to arrive than in your own boat as there is now where really to berth your boat. You need a tender and have to contend with the strong tides that rip passed the island.

Is the bowling club open for lunch on public holidays
Written 19 July 2019
I am not sure. We went on a Monday and it was closed. Best to call. It is tiny so I imagine they have restricted hours. Heard was good though.
Written 28 July 2019
There are sealed Roads but they are off limit to the public, only the local fire truck and vehicles permitted who have permits to drive on them. Residents on the Island do not drive cars there. They use wheel barrels to take stuff from the ferry to their home.

Other than walking, how do you get around the island? Do locals use golf carts, a small car? I heard about a medical emergency on the island and am wondering how the Pt was moved TIA
Written 8 June 2018
They have first responders who are trained by the ambos once a month apparently. They have had many emergencies there over the years but very few deceased because of lack of medical assistance

Hi, I wasn't aware Dangar Island was used as an institution for mental illness. Are mixing it up with Peat Island?
Written 18 August 2016
Yep you have the 2 mixed up. Dangar was never an institution, and Peat Island has been closed down. Sorry for delay.

I'm going to Dangar in 2 weeks and wondered is there a lot of spiders on the island? (I'm seriously scared of spiders and bugs and insects!)
Written 10 July 2016
Yes there are bugs & Spiders, but they will be in the bush. Stay on the roads, walkways and the beach and you won't have a problem. Would recommend you have some bug spray, even though it is winter. Our winter can get up to early 20' C. Don't lift up any rocks, you never know what may be underneath. Enjoy and relax.
