Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The ferry driver needs to take a course in customer service. We had the worst experience with the driver harassing and bullying us , A highly stressful experience for myself and my friend . We would not catch the ferry if this driver was there in the future

How can they have a blanket rule on all dogs wearing a muzzle when coming on board? Certain size and breed should be considered. My tiny 2kg 8 month old Cavoodle was refused a ride today because she wasn’t wearing a muzzle! Absolutely inhumane and unnecessary for tiny friendly dog breeds. I offered to put her in a bag as I do when I travel on Sydney ferries and that wasn’t adequate. Terrible service. I had to get a water taxi for a ten minute boat ride.

The ferries are frequent, reliable and so scenic and relaxing. Easy to get on and off. I recommend doing this if yore up that way.

I visited Dangar Island for the first time on Saturday. My first experience was the ferry driver who harassed and discriminated against me for not wearing a mask. I have a medical exemption for not wearing a mask.

It is a breach of the privacy act for him to demand to see my exemption. It is also a breach of the discrimination act. The ferry driver was also in breach of anti-bullying legislation. His manner was hostile and intrusive and not appropriate in the tourism industry. Passengers on the ferry are paying for a service, we are paying his wages and it is very intimidating to be treated this way.

The so called “mask mandate” is not law and just a government directive. The ferry driver is certainly not authorised to be enforcing an unlawful directive.

On my way back from the island this morning. I got the same harassment from the ferry driver. I again informed him that I had an exemption and he intrusively demanded to see it. I again explained that I had an exemption and it was a private matter.

He says: “Oh you’re one of those people.” I was very polite at all times. When I disembarked the ferry, I said thank you. He ignored me both times but said goodbye to the other passengers wearing masks.

The only reason that people are wearing masks on the ferry is because they are being bullied and harassed by this man. Passengers are being bullied into wearing one and ridiculed in front of everyone if you don’t.

I am within my rights to take legal action on this matter and will do so if he continues to bully and harass passengers. However, I’m not sure I even want to catch the ferry again because of his hostile and rude treatment and will most likely travel via water taxi, even if I have to pay more for the service.

The owner of this ferry goes to great lengths to make the journey as unpleasant as possible. Rude and unhelpful...and an expensive ride
Unfortunately there is no other ferry service lucky there is the water taxi which in contrast is courteous, helpful and friendly
I recommend using the water taxi if you want to avoid a stressful journey

Caught the ferry to dangar island from Brooklyn, on the way over a passenger had no cash on them and told the driver they would pay upon return for both trips, he was having none of it, and he held onto the passengers bag until they went and got cash from the little coffee shop and returned to the boat, what is interesting about this story is when we went to leave the island we had read the weekend times for departure and were caught by surprise by his early return, I ran down to the ferry from the same coffee shop to tell him our group was collecting their things and coming down and would be 1 min (they were literally 100m away) the driver refused to wait less than a minute, told me to wait for the ferry to return in 1 hour and jumped into his seat and sped off. With 6 tired and hot children left for another hour on the island I find it completely absurd he had all the time in the world to wait for a passenger to get money out at the coffee shop and return to the ferry, but did not have 1 minute to spare for us to get from the same cafe and board the ferry.
Customer service was a big fat 0.

The driver didn't accept my concession card and charged me full adult price fare both ways.

Make sure y'all take your transport concession entitlement blue card with you, he doesn't accept student id cards or opal concession card, this info is not on the website or fb page either.

I wouldn't recommend Brooklyn Ferry's tbh. 18 bucks for a trip to Dangar island and back is a rip off for a student.

I have read similar feedback for student concession holders on google reviews too.

Extremely disappointed with Brooklyn ferry. Returning from a day trip to Dangar Island, we waited for an hour for the ferry to arrive, we were the first in line. By the time we had seated our kids, I realised my 12 year old son was still not boarded. When I asked the guy who was driving the boat to let my son board he advised me that the boat was full. When I asked why he had let people who jumped the queue to board before my son he told me we had two choices, either leave my 12 year behind or we get off the boat!

As I did not want to waste my time arguing with someone with little sense we got off the boat. The same guy also had told my wife who was carrying our 15 month old son to hurry up as did not have the whole day.

We however managed to pay the $2 extra and got on a Water Taxi which was in told contrast to the Ferry. The staff were very friendly and the service was less than 10 minutes compared to the ferry which took 30 minutes.
Moral of the story save your self the hassle and book a Water Taxi.

We confirmed with Brooklyn Ferry Service that dogs were allowed however, they had to be muzzled or in a dog container. As we didn't have a muzzle (super friendly dog), we brought his container. I'd asked if we could leave our container on the ferry as we were returning on the next circuit, however, were told it's safety couldn't be assured. So we left it at the shed on the ferry wharf next to a stack of unlocked bikes. When we returned an hour later to catch the ferry it was GONE!!! The moral of the story, don't bring your container - they provide muzzles on the ferry (wasn't told this earlier) unless you bring your own padlock and chain. Sadly, among this little island of 300 people lurks a thief!
