Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We are always on the lookout for a daily exercise which gives us an hour or so of good brisk walking. This was our perfect idea, a flat surface and tarmac as well as being circular. The lake is beautiful and the walk affords many lovely views. There's a big carpark and plenty of information. There is a nice beach at one point with a picnic site. Watch out for snakes as we came across one that slithered away as we approached.

A short distance from Hidden Valley Estate to stop over to and from the dam. The dam area is excellent for nature walk, the main trail is bitumen and very good for all ages. Parking is limited even on a cold and rainy day the area is fairly busy with tourists. BBQ area is sheltered and toilet facility is clean. Nice day out for the family

We had the absolute worst weather whilst Pemberton, but it kind of cleared up just enough that we could do the drive through the area that the dam is located in. It was worth stopping by, even if it did start raining again as we got there. I imagine this would be a beautiful spot in the summer or even just on a nice clear day.

Beautiful sandy little beach in a picturesque back drop. Bring your kayaks or SUPs. We spent a few hours here swimming and playing frisbee. I have a photo but it’s in panoramic and I can’t upload it.

We'd had a big lunch at Hidden River Estate and needed a walk. Big Brook Dam is nearby and an excellent way to finish the afternoon. A very easy 4 km walk through beautiful woodlands around this impressive body of water. The trees were full of birds and we could see trout taking insects from the water. Nothing too fancy, but very relaxing and a beautiful part of the world.

I loved the walk around the lake with its beautiful views along the way. I also appreciated the picnic tables and toilets within a short distance of the main parking area. It was so pleasant to sit there eating my lunch while enjoying the views over the water.

Walked the dam perimeter - beautiful. Even though it's a warm day the shady walk was cool and very green. Saw lovely birds as well as the tall karris. About 4K and good going the whole bitumen track. Highly recommended.

I've recently moved to Pemberton. Big Brook Dam is amazing. Dog friendly (except they are not allowed in the water or on the beach area). I've seen some people not abiding by this, so I'm not sure how it's policed. But it's a bit concerning due to this water forming part of the town's water supply. My daughter enjoyed her first swim there. Great path around the dam allowing for an easy walk. Plenty of spots for photo opportunities.

I went for a quiet solo stroll around the dam. It had been raining so the air was nice and fresh. Lots of small wildflowers on the way round with a few nice viewing points.
Took about an hour but I was neither rushing nor dawdling. You could do it quicker or slower.

A lovely gentle 4km walk passing the dam and walking past the bush. Don’t forget to look up at the magnificent trees. The path is wide enough for 2, good quality bitumen. There is a beach where swimming is allowed. You can even take the dog

Would I need to book for a “ midweek” stay maybe 2 nights ?
Written 28 November 2020
Hi there, we stayed midweek and it was nice because everywhere was fairly empty with people still at work and school. However, many of the nearby wineries and breweries are closed midweek so it depends on what you want to do.

Hi There, I was wondering about the availability of camping here during the Christmas and new year break? Can anyone confirm from previous experience if the sites book out early. We would be driving down from Perth and would hate to have to turn around. The department of wildlife says the have an overflow but I'm not sure of the size. Many Thanks in advance.

The camping area that I know of is very small and near the Arboretum and would book out extremely quickly. Try Warren River along the Heartbreak trail, there are limited campsites but you might get lucky...first in best dressed as they say...keep in mind you can't book those ones though. You may have to go to the caravan park in town itself for a spot.

Where can we rent canoes without following a tour?
Written 6 August 2016
In the summer months you can hire canoes & paddle boats at the Dam (certainly in the afternoon). Contact the Pemberton Visitor Centre on (08) 9776 1133 in advance to check on availability or if they can hire them out from town. The visitor centre is one of the best around, so they would definitely be able to sort you out.
