About
The Busselton Museum is housed in the one hectare Old Butter Factory Precinct which is nestled on the banks of the picturesque Vasse River. A replica of the old Busselton Jetty Rotunda enhances the vista and the building exhibits demonstrate Busselton’s diverse agricultural, forestry and maritime history with special attention focused on the famous 1920s Group Settlement Scheme and the heritage listed Old Butter Factory. The Museum opened in 1975 and is now run entirely by volunteers from the Busselton Historical Society. Tuesdays are set aside for this willing band of workers who maintain the artefacts, build new displays and continually strive to keep this collection relevant. There is lots to see and visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic lunch and enjoy it in the grounds by the Vasse River under the shade of the old Tuart trees.

    A morning well spent
Really enjoyed the excellent displays of local history. The items have all been curated and/or restored to their original condition. Restoration and repairs from a fire in 2018 have been meticulously restored. The volunteers clearly love what they are doing and are very generous with their time and knowledge.

    CONGRATULATIONS TO STAFF
This museum is located near the Vasse River. It's run by volunteers who on this occasion provided our large group with morning tea. The staff were helpful & friendly. The museum content was varied & would bring back memories for older folk as well as being educational for youngsters.

Wonderful museum. You can easily spend hours looking through all of the displays. So many items from Busselton's past are on display. Great place to go yourself, as a couple, with a friend or as a family. Definitely add it on your list of places to visit while in the region. Added bonus is a little pottery shop next door with lovely items made by local potters.

HBH couple learn about Busselton history
HBH indulges a nostalgic morning learning about life through the generations in Busselton. We needed something different to do; Busselton Museum was perfect. Friendly helpful staff [I guess volunteers]. Many different rooms each themed. From sewing machines and kitchen wares, military displays, farm machinery, an old school house fully kitted out and much much more. Outdoor and indoor displays. And everything about the origins of this place - the Busselton Butter factory and how it worked. Great for every age group, outside area overlooking the river. A place of discovery.

Found a leaflet about this museum at our motel and decided to visit. What a joy it is! The collection is eclectic and lovingly displayed and a great insight into social history. The setting of the old butter factory is perfect too and the grounds outside, beautiful.
The volunteer staff are just wonderful and made the visit too. It was one of the highlights of our first visit to Busselton.

So interesting. An incredible range of indoor and outdoor displays. Its not just about butter! Its about history with a huge collection of memorabilia. Displays of farm equipment, buggies, household items, a telephone exchange, settler's house and so on.
Interesting to learn about the group settlements scheme which brought settlers to Busselton.

The museum is located on the site of the old Butter Factory and has ten display rooms packed with photographs, equipment and memorabilia which trace the family, social, civic, commercial and maritime history of Busselton. The one-hectare site is nestled on the banks of the picturesque Vasse River and also showcases many items of farming equipment in outdoor settings. There is a replica of the Jetty Rotunda adjacent the river. Indoors, see crockery, clocks, cameras, sewing machines, butter and cheese making implements, churns, drum markers, old number plates, bedding, cots, prams, and yet more items. Historical photos. Great Museum. $8 is cheap admission for an adult, even less for a Senior or Junior. Excellent enthusiastic volunteers on hand to assist.

We visited the museum not expecting to see much. Wow what an eye opener. Very inexpensive. A huge array of exhibits both inside and outside. Well maintained and well displayed with explanatory notes in many places.

The museum is a delight of local history. There is so much to see all of which is displayed well. The videos about butter production where the butter factory equipment is displayed helps to explain the history of production. There are various displays of machinery, a settlers hut, school room etc. allow a couple of hours to explore and appreciate.

we visited the Busselton Butter Factory Museum last Monday and were greeted by friendly staff
who gave us a pamphlet and information on what not to miss out seeing. We could have spent
several hours there. It is a wonderful collection of "Yesteryear". It brought back many memories.
Excellent Museum.
