Fabulous trip!
We went past the lighthouse on a whale-watching cruise. The middle of July and there were many whales in the Bay. Quite a few showed their tails (presumably as a part of their diving). Godd commentary and helpful staff on the boat.

The Point King Lighthouse is a little off the beaten track, we started at the industrial city port end Ellen cove boardwalk. Nice easy walk taking in fantastic views of Princess Royal Harbour & what is left of the light keepers cottage.

I'm an Albany local and have been here many times. It's just off the Ellen Cove boardwalk, and easily missed, since there's not much signage, so be sure to do some research in advance about where exactly you need to go. It's a short walk off the paved boardwalk trail, down a short gravel path. The only access is by walking along the Ellen Cove boardwalk, either starting from Middleton Beach, or on the other end in the industrial area near the city Port.

The ruins here are of the house used by the lighthouse keeper, since there is nothing remaining of the lighthouse itself. There is an information plaque just before the ruins itself, with some information about the lighthouse keepers and their families. It is perfectly safe to access the ruins - the roof is completely gone, but the walls are still standing, and there are several rooms to explore, including a fire-place, but not much more.

The real appeal of this for me is the location. It's right near the ocean, and we have had fun exploring the rocks around the area. It's also right beside the channel entrance to the harbour, so if you're lucky you might see a large ship passing through, or at least some boats, although there's not a lot of traffic on the water here. There's also views across to Point Possession directly on the other side of the channel.

Nice spot to visit, but only if you are doing the entire Ellen Cove walk - recommended for a short visit.

The ruins of the Lighthouse and the Keeper's cottage are located about 100 metres down an unsealed pathway that runs off the Ellen Cove Boardwalk. There is a sign. The ruins are located approximately 14 metres above the high water mark on the granite point, but the water seems a lot closer. It would also have been very desolate, windy spot as there was no flat area around the house.

The Lighthouse became operational in 1858, was manually operated and was also the first lighthouse to be built in the port of Albany. The Lighthouse was made redundant in 1911 and the building remained unused for many years and fell into disrepair.

There is now not a lot to see, just walls of the old cottage, as it appears that the roof and the lighthouse tower disappeared some time ago.

Take the Ellen Cove boardwalk from Middleton Beach. Then about 1.5 km into a nice walk, you can explore these ruins and rocks - it is just off the track.
Worth a stop.

As a former resident of Albany, I have visited this spot a number of times. This is a nice little historic spot to visit when you take the board-walk from Albany's Port, through to Middleton Beach. The Lighthouse located on the north shore entrance to Princess Royal Harbour, was the first navigational light for the port of Albany and the second lighthouse built on Western Australia’s coastline.

Erected to improve navigation into Princess Royal Harbour, this lighthouse fits well with many monuments and sights along a reasonable walking trail, part of which is jointly share with bicycles. Keep an eye out for turns as it isn't that well sign posted, but still a good walk.
There is a track from The National ANZAC Centre that winds down to the Plantagenet Battery, Mustafa Kemal AtatĂĽrk monument and winds along to the Albany Port Grain Silos where you can see the Sea Dragon Mural. Ask at the Tourist Centre for details.

This is actually a short walk to the Point King Lighthouse. Don't be fooled by the industrial surrounds of Port Albany with all the grain and sand being loaded and unloaded.

Just park your car conveniently at the trail head which is not marked. Google Maps helps a lot. Walk in.

Along the way is a memorial to a fearsome adversary to Australia in WWI. Kamal Attarturk. Then you will have arrived at the lighthouse. It is in ruins but I would consider it well preserved ruins with views amazing views.

An off-the-beaten path site that is well worth the visit.
