About
King George Sound Safari runs boat tours daily around the picturesque coastal seaside town of Albany, Western Australia. During winter from May to October whales can be spotted but dolphins and seals can be seen all year round. Situated in Princess Royal Harbour, part of King George Sound, these waters are steeped in history. Come aboard and experience Albany from the sea. Imagine what it would have been like when the first explorers pulled into the harbour as early as 1627 or when the first ANZAC troops departed Albany for WWI in 1914. Our boat is the "Young Salty Dog", a twin hull catamaran and an ex Sea Rescue vessel that is safe and stable. Holding up to 12 passengers, Captain Mark will give you a personalised tour of the harbour and King George Sound. May-Oct: Two Safaris Daily (3 Hours), departing 9:30am and 1:30pm Nov-Apr: Three Safaris Daily (2 Hours), departing 9:30am, 12:30pm and 3:30pm

We came to Albany as a group of 8 friends and wanted to see some of the sights in the sound. We booked out the whole boat and had Captain Mark as our guide for the day.

Really comfortable boat and great commentary. It was nice that Mark kept checking with us on our preference, rather than just doing the canned tour that most boat tours do.

We stopped off at Emu Point and collected fish, squid and chips from the squid shack at a Discount price and enjoyed that along with some beers and wine from our eski we brought along.

If you want to see a bit of the Sound or do some whale watching etc l’d recommend you hit Mark up.

Good communication on the lead up to the outing. This is one of the best 2 hour cruises that we’ve ever taken. Mark had the group engaged for the entire cruise of the King George Sound, which included 2 families with young children. As well as being so knowledgeable of his surroundings, he is such a natural storyteller. Highly recommend this outing if you’ve got a little spare time in Albany. Not surprising that his small group cruises fill. thanks Mark.

What a amazing time we had aboard our King George Sound Safari cruise yesterday. This is our second time visiting Albany and thought a cruise on the King George Sound would be nice. Captain Mark went above and beyond with his service, allowed us to bring along food and drinks and provided us with lots of interesting facts about Albany, it’s history, beaches and even gave me some tips on local fishing spots. We spotted a seal and the Captain was happy to turn the vessel around and circle back because my daughter had not been able to see it clearly, (he was very accomodating with my children).
Also let them both have a turn at sitting on the captains chair with the captains hat on. Definitely value for money, Mark is a asset to the business and we will be sure to return again. Thanks again Mark.

Visiting the historic city of Albany is an amazing experience in itself, but what made it exceptional was the exploration of King George sound with the King George sound Safari under the guidance and direction of Captain Mark.
The day trip around King George sound was the highlight of my long weekend away. The history and anecdotes shared by Captain Mark made the journey a memorable one as well as a highly enlightening one. His brilliant sense of humour and wit made the journey very entertaining and his attention to detail as well as his overwhelming concern for safety was highly reassuring.
I simply cannot recommend King George sound Safari and Captain Mark highly enough. Thank you for making my first trip to Albany such an exceptional one. You are a credit to Albany and tour operators worldwide. Well done!

Whale sightings are not guaranteed - it's not a zoo! Despite not finding any whales, we had a fabulous three hours cruising the Sound, seeing dolphins, seals and a variety of seabirds. Great value for money, interesting and fun information and anecdotes about the history, geography and landscapes of the area. Funny and informative captain/guide. Best way to spend three hours on the water. We will be back!

It was an incredible adventure! Whole extended family went, we all got to captain the boat, Mark was incredibly inclusive of the range of ages and needs and we learnt things about Albany that many of us (who have lived here forever) didn’t know. The music was sensational and it was absolutely ABBA that bought the whales in. We’d do it again!

We were lucky enough to secure a last minute cruise in December 2022. We last visited 3 years ago and we’re looking forward to another trip. Captain Mark was very knowledgeable on not just the whales (which unfortunately due to the timing of our visit we were unable to see) but also Albany, it’s history, it’s exporting trade, it’s marine animals and much more. Highlights for the kids (12 years and and 10 years old) was wearing the captains hat and sitting in the drivers seat, as well as holding a whales tooth. If your looking for something to do whilst visiting Albany, I can highly recommend King George Sound Safari. Our family for 4 really enjoyed it, and it was value for money.

Couldn’t recommend this tour more. Although we didn’t get to see any whales (late in the season so this was kind of expected), the trip was so much fun that I didn’t come away disappointed. Captain Mark’s sense of humour will keep you laughing throughout the trip. Even without whales it was worth every cent
