About
King George Sound Safari runs boat tours daily around the picturesque coastal seaside town of Albany, Western Australia. During winter from May to October whales can be spotted but dolphins and seals can be seen all year round. Situated in Princess Royal Harbour, part of King George Sound, these waters are steeped in history. Come aboard and experience Albany from the sea. Imagine what it would have been like when the first explorers pulled into the harbour as early as 1627 or when the first ANZAC troops departed Albany for WWI in 1914. Our boat is the "Young Salty Dog", a twin hull catamaran and an ex Sea Rescue vessel that is safe and stable. Holding up to 12 passengers, Captain Mark will give you a personalised tour of the harbour and King George Sound. May-Oct: Two Safaris Daily (3 Hours), departing 9:30am and 1:30pm Nov-Apr: Three Safaris Daily (2 Hours), departing 9:30am, 12:30pm and 3:30pm

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Had a lovely morning trip with Mark, very informative with extensive local knowledge, a great few laughs along the way, the absolute highlight of our trip to Albany! Mark even gave us a couple of vouchers he had for the local pub which we utilised for dinner that night! Great guy, great company, we will definitely be back for the whale watching tour 😊

P.S. if you give him your phone for a group photo, Mark will even leave you a lovely souvenir selfie! 😂

Went on the 12:30pm cruise today with Mark, was a really enjoyable experience. Mark really knows the lay of the land and has some very good jokes to go along with the locations! Good music throughout the tour and was never left bored, even got great food recommendations for after the boat tour, would highly recommend!

What a relaxed and joy filled experience. Captain Mark generously shares his knowledge of Albany and goes out of his way to make the journey memorable. I came away with more respect for our beautiful environment and a greater understanding of the area. There was plenty of good and bad jokes with lots of banter, which kept everyone laughing for the 2 hours. As I was travelling solo this broke the ice with other passengers. Thankyou Mark.

Great experience. Very knowledgeable Cap’n. Corniest of jokes. I gave him this:
If you weigh whales in a whale weigh station, where would you weigh a pie?
Go on Cap’n Marks safari, he’ll give you the answer!

I’ve been on Captain Mark’s boat twice now and each time I’ve learned lots of interesting facts about my hometown and sea life. We didn’t get to see whales this time as the season was over but it was a great way to see a different side to Albany, to the beautiful coastlines, wildlife, and the history surrounding the area is always magical. Definitely recommend to anyone travelling to Albany or even as a local. Mark is knowledgeable and hilarious and you’re bound to have a great time!

We had a great time even when we didn’t see any whales Mark, the skipper went out of his way to ensure everybody on board had a good time he was great with the kids and we continued travelling around until the very last minute he wasn’t happy until we saw something as it was he found some dolphins and the kids were slowed up front to watch them play with the boat we couldn’t have asked for a more positive experience thanks mate

It was a great experience. Unfortunately we did not see a single whale, or dolphin, but one very sleepy seal 😀. Mark was engaging and everyone had a turn at steering. We learnt interesting facts, but were not overloaded. The weather was sublime. He also reitterated that we could go again for free any other time this season.

We have travelled over 3000kms so far and this has been a highlight for sure. We had an amazing morning out exploring the area, captain Mark made the trip, he's full of knowledge and humour, a real people person. We really enjoyed the personal touch. My daughter was made to feel very special by Mark and has raved about "driving". We will definitely be back.
Thanks so much Mark.

Tues 19 Aug 23, 0930am Tour service. Professional business providing a Scenic Tour/Whale Watch experience in King George Sound, Albany WA (one of Western Australia's most spectacular harbours). The owner/operator (Captain Mark) provides an informative, interesting, witty and sometimes compelling report... all conducted in a congenial atmosphere. You won't be disappointed. You will also come away with an idea of what 200 litres of paint or other substance can achieve... best to leave the rest of that story to Captain Mark. Regards.
