Discovery Bay near Albany is a truly unique attraction.

It is home to Australia's last operating Whaling Station, a stunning Botanic Garden of Australian plants and a display offering visitors a close up experience with friendly Australian Wildlife.

You can choose to explore either our whaling history, or the gardens and wildlife, or the entire site to make a real day of it! Pack a picnic or BBQ lunch and spend a day discovering lots you didn't know about the Great Southern region.

Situated at the tip of the Flinders Peninsula, the heritage-listed "Whale World" site has undergone dramatic change since 2004. Now maximising its location, Discovery Bay is a showcase of amazing regional bio-diversity, yet still remains true to the original whaling display.

Historic Whaling Station guided tours are included with admission, while informative displays are provided to enjoy the gardens and wildlife at your own pace.

My friends and I went to see the Australian Wildlife Display as we had already visited Whale World before but there is no ticket for this and the botanical gardens, it's all inclusive and there is no reasonable value in $32 dollars to see an animal display.

It is well worth drive if you are around the Albany area very well set out and easy access for elderly. The views over the bay are fantastic and the little Cafe is a great place for a coffee and something to eat not over priced for the remote location we had the local sea fits it was fresh and... It was a fitting end to our visit to this sad place that we learned of the beaching of hundreds of whales on the NZ coast. An unpleasant reminder of the slaughter of many mammals with equally graphic pictures and relics of their demise. The tour spokesman did a good job of explaining the processes of harpooning/ fletching/boiling the blubber/extracting... More

Highly recommended. Very interesting. Take the time to wander around and learn about Albany and the history of the whaling station. Join the guided tour if you can, well worth hearing all the facts from one of the locals.

At $29 for seniors entry it is just too expensive for what is offered. You need to review your fees as I had similar comments from a number of like visitors to Albany.

We knew nothing about whaling before our visit but having spent the afternoon there we came away with a good idea of how it all worked. We did the forty minute guided tour which gave us an idea about the process involved. The three different films added to our knowledge and the walk around the boat made us realise what... More

this is an interesting place to visit and see how the whaling was preformed back 50 years ago the old Whale wild tanks nor converted into exhibition and movie displays Worth doing is the tour of on of the last whale catchers but several ladders type stairs to get round older people need to take care.
