About
Established in 2022, Great Ocean Road Distillery offers a unique distillery experience in Torquay. Explore the botanical garden and learn the stories behind the hand-picked ingredients used in crafting their gins. Sample their spirits, guided by the knowledgeable staff, and unwind with music from local DJs. Open Monday to Friday for retail purchases and Saturdays for the bar experience. As many of our gin enthusiasts may already know, we established our original base - The Great Ocean Road Gin Tasting Room & Gin Garden - on the Ocean Road in Aireys Inlet in 2018. We then opened The Gin Kitchen next door in 2021, which offers a delectable menu of South East Asian-inspired cuisine.

Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Great Ocean Road Distillery
Last Saturday, I had the pleasure of visiting the Ocean Road Distillery located in the industrial park in Torquay with Pearls of Madam Brussels fame. The proprietors, Ann and Chris, have been experimenting with and creating gin for the past two years. They presently have six varieties, predominantly based upon botanica that they forage from the surrounding area. The botanica that I can remember includes river gum leaves, kelp, saltbush, and pigs face, and I think there were some more. One of the six major lines they produce tastes of the ocean…unsurprisingly given the botanica.
They have a beautiful copper still, which can produce some 300 litres at a time. More than enough to give you a sizeable headache. They also have a bar and are well set up to provide gin tastings. I sampled 3 types of their gin cocktails they were fabulous. If I had not been driving I might still be there! I then tasted a mystery sample and to my complete surprise it tasted like Christmas pudding. It actually was. They have produced a gin infused with Christmas puddings made by Ann’s mother. Their Christmas Pudding Gin Liqueur. You just have to try this. It is amazing.
Do not visit this area without checking if the Distillery is open and if it is go there. You will not be disappointed.
We then went to their restaurant in Aireys Inlet on the hill. The Gin Kitchen. That is the subject of another review. But is equally fabulous.
