A lovely short walk to a beautiful old traditional lighthouse. A little windy when we went but in spite of that it’s an easy walk. Flat and picturesque from beginning to end.

Lovely, easy walk to the lighthouse accessible by a causeway connected to the mainland. There is another walk that takes you another direction around the island. I can't comment on the latter as I did not walk it.

The time to visit would be around 22 September. Every year about 3 days either side of that date, approximately 15,000 Shearwater (Mutton) birds arrive at this colony. That would be a sight to see.

Port Fairy is a beautiful town and summer is the time to visit.

the track encircles the island, and part of it goes through the centre of the island. Lovely views of the ocean and boardwalks allow you to go off the track and maybe sight the shearwaters that nest on the island.

Well laid out track around the island, taking in the lighthouse. Our favourite part was the section after the lighthouse, which goes down and across the beach. The shearwaters had all left, but we say some black wallabies, and other seabirds.

Just be sure to time your walk, according to the tides! On my first attempt, the tide was coming in and I was unable to access the path. The ranger closed the gate. The next day, the tide was out and it was a beautiful day for a leisurely walk.

Good walking tracks and nice view of the harbour and incoming boats. Nesting ground for local birdlife.

There are various walks on and around the island, depending on time available and one's level of fitness. We circumnavigated the island along graded pathes, beaches and over rocky areas. We were amazed to see the variety of birds totally unafraid of us - from gulls, terns, ibis, to magpies and ravens - all ignored us walking past only a few metres away. The wallabies on the paths similarly ignored us. The photos and information in the Rotunda should be seen as it gives a lot of information that adds to the experience of the walk.

We enjoyed our walk to the lighthouse and back mid afternoon. The track is good and you have an option of a flat easier walk or a walk that has more of a challenge. Both end up at the lighthouse. We learned about the shearwater birds and their fascinating annual migratory journey. It was sad to see the number of dead birds by the track, showing how precarious life is for the new chicks as they learn to fly and negotiate predators.

Griffiths Island features a lovely 45 minute stroll which circles the shoreline along a well marked path. As you walk you’ll pass many shear water nesting areas. Interestingly, shearwaters only come ashore to lay their eggs for which they dig burrows. The landscape is pockmarked with their burrows, a clear indication they’ve been visiting this place for years.

As you walk the trails you’ll be treated to the sight and sound of crashing waves on the shore. On our visit we saw gannets, Grey and white herons and black wallabies.

The trails are mostly level and are great for any fitness level. A visit here is a lovely way to spend a bit of time with nature.

everybody said that the Griffiths island is a must to visit in Port Fairy and that's the reason why we picked it up as the first destination after arrival.

At first it was good, perfect weather and wonderful sightseeing...however when when you tried to explore inside and go further to reach the lighthouse you have to go through a tough way which was kind of challenging for us.... we have to give up and go back.....

Perhaps the island is too nature for visitors like us......
