About
Dairy farmers Julian and Dianne Benson launched Apostle Whey Cheese on October 29, 2005. Since that day, Apostle Whey Cheese has taken out a number of major cheese awards and become an important tourism drawcard for the region. Just a short drive from the Twelve Apostles and the Great Ocean Road, Apostle Whey Cheese is a genuine paddock to plate operation.

A cheese place for all the family
Apr. 2021 • Family
For a $1 a person you could taste 12 different types of cheese all made by Apostle whey. Not fancy in their approach but great cheese! They know and produce lots cheese rather than simply sell cheese made by various farms in Vic and SA. Not only that but our visit also coincided with the late afternoon milking of the cows which was a wonderful experience for our toddler to see in the shed next door. All 4 of our children enjoyed making their own flavoured milk with the Apostle Whey milk they sold there as well. All in all it was one of our favourite stops on the 12 Apostles Gourmet trail. Not fancy but very real with friendly people. A very family friendly place!!!!

We stopped in as we were following a taste the region map and the Fudge place had recommended it.
Tasting was $1 per person, with 10 cheese. The lady was nice, but I felt the tasting was a little rushed. Barely had time to chew one cheese and the next one was ready and being talked about.
The lady serving us, did give a suggestion about cooking pasta with the feta oil, which we have now tried, twice, and WOW it is so good, simple and tastes amazing.

Cheeses are made from fresh milk
Mar. 2021
The cheeses at Apostle Whey Cheese are made from fresh cows' milk. You can see the cows on the farm, from whence comes the creamy milk that provides the raw material for the cheese. The cheeses made in a variety of styles; personally; I like the feta best, but have a try from the tasting platter and see which you prefer. Apostle Whey Cheese is in the Great Ocean Road hinterland, there are quite a few gourmet food producers popping up in the area, tasting these delicacies adds a new dimension to your Great Ocean Road explorations.

Stopped by here on the way back from Port Campbell. This is a wonderful cheesery with a good range of delicious produce.
We did the cheese tasting and sampled most of the varieties.
Purchased quite a lot of products to take home. The chilli feta is wonderful, loved the garlic cheese and pepper cheese too. Looking forward to enjoying it with a good bottle of wine!
We also purchased some of their locally made ice cream which was really delicious. Recommend the tiramasu flavour ❤️

Cheesey Stop

We stopped here as one of the places on the Great Ocean Road “Gourmet Trail”. We did the cheese tasting for $1pp. The gentleman that facilitated our tasting was knowledgeable and appeared to have passion in their products. He was informative and helpful. Their were 4 different types of cheeses (where you get to try a couple of flavours of each variety). The types on the day we went were soft cheeses, havarti, blue and marinated. The cheese is freshly cut in front of you too, rather than served on a pre-prepared platter (which also minimises waste). After the tasting you can go through to the small eating area to order a cheese platter. Additionally, you can also order gelato. It was cute to look out the window to the “Moo-ternity Ward” and see that calves and their mamas. Glad we made the trip out to Apostle Whey Cheese.

For cheese lovers
Dec. 2020
Apostle Whey Cheese is part of the Gourmet Trail that was established for tourists to enjoy the hinterland of the 12 Apostles area also ( wide range - whiskey, ice cream, cheese, chocolate, beer, olives ). You get free cheese samples, and have the option to enjoy a cheese platter and/or gelato in the restaurant part. And of course you can buy the delicious cheeses. Only a short drive from Port Campbell.
Consider a combination with a visit to Gorge Chocolates, which is just down the road. Apart from tasty chocolate varieties, they also run and alpaca farm and the history of alpacas in Australia is well explained in the cafe area.

We did some of the Gourmet Trail, called in here for some cheese. Wonderful. We went back the day after to watch them milk the cows. Very interesting. (And we are ex- dairy farmers)

Overworked staff made for a stressed vibe
Jan. 2021 • Friends
Arrived with excitement to try and buy some cheese. When we walked in it was chaotic with people everywhere and no clear direction of how to join a line for tastings. The poor ladies were absolutely run off their feet and were madly washing dishes and knives before tastings. The lady serving us was lovely but so obviously stressed muttering things under her breath. When a customer asked for a cheese platter they were told "that's not buying cheese we have to stop what we're doing and make it, we're going to have to stop doing platters all together we just can't keep up" the poor man looked so embarrassed. He was told he'd have to wait at least 20 minutes.
They didn't appear to have a well set up system compared to other cheese places I've been to which appeared to add to their stress. We were planning on staying for a meal and buying cheese but left early because of the vibe.
