Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

About ten minutes out from Morwell on the road to Mirbo North you see this open shed on the right hand side with Big lettering , hard to miss.
Turn into the little drive way and you can drive right up to the Memorial.
Here you can read the history of this small , close ,vibrant community of Driffield.
Learn about the family’s that settled the area back in 1870 , The family’s that lived here for generations and then moved on when the land was needed for the power industry.
Read how an early settler Samuel Vary named his property DRIFFIELD after his home town in Yorkshire England and then the area became known as such.
On the floor of the shed there is a mural map showing the map of the area and all the different landowners property’s.
On the back wall of the Memorial buildings there are messages printed on a big plaque from residents telling us of their fond memories growing up and living in this community.
As you drive or walk into the shed do not miss the sign that displays a letter that was written to the Latrobe Valley Express on the 27 March 2008, written by Carol Blair putting forward her views on the demise of Driffield.
Carol is a member of the Bond family who go way back in Driffield history.
Standing there on this potent sight taking in the great story of Driffield one looks across the road to the mine/ Power Station area and yes we needed it , we needed the power and then look behind the Memorial and the farms are still working, the cows are still giving up their milk whereas the Power Station has ceased and the dredgers are no longer digging up the coal. We keep moving on but the memory of Driffield will remain and this Memorial will help to ensure that .
Well done to all involved in putting this in place .
Drive out and have a look and a read, it is good stuff.

I have often driven to Mirboo North on the Strzelecki Highway and noticed a small shed (?) to one side of the road... as it's distinctly in the middle of nowhere, it always catches your eye. The shelter was built with compensation money from the loss of the Community Hall in 2009.

So what's it all about... once Driffield was a vibrant community and it existed for 110 years. But in the 1980s the SEC decided to start buying up the land and the farms in the area... for expansion of it's coal mines.

The memorial is a simple site opened as a memorial officially in November 2015, but what it reminds us of is that we live in an evolving world. For advancement things continue to change... if that is what the mine could be called. Echoes survive of families that once had a thriving community.

Worth a look if passing by. One of many towns in area that were demolished or relocated due to being built on coal pockets
