Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Visited on Wednesday 28th February. We didn't stop here as there is not a lot to see other than a small camping ground. There are more scenic spots further along the Great Ocean Road.

Ok... we booked online which was easy enough. Bit expensive for an unpowered site per night ($45) but we went anyway. Arrived in the arvo, and were greeted (?... grunted at) by the receptionist who had zero customer service skills. She handed me a page with all the rules and and highlighted the important bits. Once you get past there it’s lovely. Sites are a little tricky to find as they are marked with concrete markers buried in the grass but you’ll get there eventually. We had a river side site with easy access to two amenities blocks. One you pay 20 cents for 5 mins of hot shower water, the other you press a button on the wall. Both blocks were clean and well maintained. The park itself was quiet while we were there, even with a large school group of children also camping. The only thing we felt was lacking were more BBQs. Two were just not enough.
Beyond the park however is the private beach across the road (be careful crossing!). At the other end of the park is a walking track that depending on your hiking skills, you can walk for hours. We hiked as far as the Cumberland Falls, approx 6-7km return over a couple of hours. I am by no means fit or an experienced hiker, but I found it easy enough. Only tricky parts were the river crossings walking on wobbly rocks, but decent shoes should help out here. Once at the falls, it was a relaxing place to chill before making our way back. You could probably take a swim in the pool at the bottom of the falls, however my partner sat on the edge with his feet in and had himself tasted by an eel! Take plenty of water and sunscreen for any of the hikes. Overall we had a great couple of days, and we didn’t need to see the grumpy receptionist again throughout our stay. I do recommend this park for families as there’s a playground and plenty of lawn area for kids to play. Keep an eye on the kids near the river as campers in either side both had littlies take a dive into the river. While not deep, it’s full of large rocks.
We plan to visit again, maybe later in the year when the warmer weather rolls around.

Campsite is very spacious, ducks galore so unfort there is duck doo everywhere, and the wind and rain in this gully unfort spoiled some of the days, as the tent went through a very hard time but did survive.
could have better amenities as when its full there is a long time in waiting for showers or toilet stop as there are only 2 womens toilets in the general shower block.

It's very overpriced for camping. Checkout was 10.00am Sunday. We asked for extension as everything was so wet. They wanted $10 per hour!! Management rude. Not a relaxing place for a weekend at all. Shame - the setting is lovely.

We came to Cumberland River Holiday Park with friends as research indicated it to be a lovely venue for camping. Venue turned out to be terrific and the staff most helpful. Our group would certainly recommend the venue to others. Although only 15 minutes drive from Lorne, park is somewhat isolated and plenty of information is given indicating resources that need to be managed for staying at the park, eg power, water, food supplies etc. As with any camp venue there are rules outlined for safety and acceptable behaviour to enable everyone to enjoy their camp experience. Fires and noisy behaviour were to cease at 10:00pm (very fair ) to allow other campers to settle for the night. Unfortunately, there are some campers who do not respect the rights of others and a group near us were noisy over a period of two nights ( at least 1:00am the first night and 3:00am a second night). I mentioned this to management who were helpful and insisted on dealing with the problem. Responsibility and respect make for a better time for all !

The Cumberland River is a spectacular short stop over while driving the GOR. Follow the path through the camp ground and meander up the valley with the imposing rock walls on either side. Its quite a beautiful respite from the GOR. The river offers relief if its hot and you cant wait until you head back to the beach. When I walked through I "met" two large kangaroos eyeing me warily on the path. Best time to explore is out of the school holidays when the camp ground is empty. On a clear night the stars are just beautiful.
Plus at the end of your walk you can have a swim in the sparkling clean beach.

pretty spot where the river meets the sea and crosses under the Great Ocean Road. Very good spot for beach fishing. Has a good size car park on left hand side for pictures
