OK I'm a bloke and not into needlework, tapestry, crafty stuff etc (I initially thought I'd go for a walk rather than subject myself to a boring bit of quilting or something similar) but this work of art is outstanding. And the heritage museum in the same complex is well worth a visit too.

I'm not a very Crafty Person but the Yarns Artwork in Silk on display here is a must to visit. The explanation of these works is a joy to listen to. The restored old miners cottages etc. out the back are also a must to explore. A big thank you to the volunteers who help run this establishment.

Deloraine in the Meander Valley, a rather appropriate name for the area, is a National Trust classified town and rather arty, famous for the Yarns Artwork in Silk exhibition. These are 4 huge silk panels, which have been appliquéd (soft sculpture), using hand and machine embroidery. Each panel shows a season and the attention to detail is phenomenal. Take your... More

The silk yarn display was absolutely stunning, the commentary was most informative, and the four soft sculptured panels were serendipitous. The people who worked on the display must have felt a wonderful sense of achievement once the panels were completed. The museum in the complex was educational and well worth making time to visit. Congratulations to all those involved in... More

At the visitor's centre you must see the truly awesome pictorial landscape quilts. You won't be disappointed. The adjacent folk village was also very good. Lunch at the Deloraine Deli was also a delight.

It was interesting to listen to the explanation of how these unique artworks were created and to have the specific parts explained.

Wonderful exhibit of handicraft! I'm a quilter and I was just blown away by this depiction of Deloraine, its history and the amazing use of fabrics to tell the story. The museum and garden are also worth visiting and full of surprises. Altogether, well worth the time to visit.
