A family run business that has been on the island for some time. A wonderful range of products and bee related items. The owners are passionate about what they do without being pushy. What and how the bees do are also all explained. The ice cream is a MUST!

We stopped here on a Rainy Day. There is a store in the front and the back room is a small museum with a video about the farm and the honey making process. I believe they used to give a tour but that wasn't offered to us.
Be sure to get some of their homemade Honey Ice Cream. It was so good we came back later that day for seconds and thirds.

Interesting history of honey making on the island, thought it could have been better presented. The museum part of the shop could do with a refresh. Nice to see a working bee hive. Bought some honey, it’s expensive, but unique The honey ice cream was delicious

I love mead. I will travel to the ends of the earth for it. This review if not about their mead. It’s about the honey farm itself.
Not convenient to get to, but that’s not their fault. It is where it is. The thing is, if you’re based beyond the middle of nowhere, make it worthwhile for the customer who makes the journey to visit your business.
It’s dusty and dilapidated and dated. You enter and the gift shop is a single room with items neatly displayed on shelves but sampling is forbidden. That in itself is the seller’s prerogative. But to offer the “excuse” that covid prevents it, when most other wine selling businesses in the region have sampling and food businesses have food samples, seems misleading or factually incorrect.
The bee farm exhibit in the next room was particularly amateur in its set up and exceptionally dated in its appearance.
Suffice to say, I purchased my bottle of mead and headed for the next venue.
Save yourself the (long and arduous) trip and buy a bottle of Kangaroo Island Pure Ligurian Honey Mead from a bottle shop. It might be cheaper too.
Oh, as for the mead itself, it’s actually made by Thistle Mead using the Clifford farm honey. Thistle Mead are exceptional makers of mead! Buy the mead. Skip the farm.

OK for a quick 30 minute visit, but quite a way from main roads. You can taste alcoholic drinks for $2 or non-alcoholic for $1. Honey ice cream is scrummy!!
Interesting area out back tells you a lot about the honey making process and the bees & there is a live hive where you can try to find the queen.

This is a family run business and lacked the commercial sell of some places.
There is an excellent video on the place's history as well as beekeeping.
It seems that someone important some Liguria bees from Italy in the 1800s. There were no other bees on the Island. So, the breed remained pure. Italy no longer has any pure breed itself and so now imports queens from here. We learnt all sorts of interesting facts such as a worker bee has a lifespan of only six weeks, whereas the queens live to five years.
We enjoyed the honey vanilla ice cream at 4.50 for a small cup.
There are no admission fees.

Decided to pop in for visit, as we love honey and we had read that Kangaroo Island honey is some of the best. The shop is a bit small, and while the room where they explain how the bees are kept and honey is harvested had good info, the layout wasn't the best or visitor friendly. We ended up buying the creamed honey, which was very good; however, the other honey we sampled was nothing spectacular.

I have this thing about honey shops and guess what, I made a bee-line (excuse the pun) for the Clifford's Honey Farm.
This family run business is right at the end of a fairly rugged rural track which is worth the detour and the rutted dirt that you kick up. I find it really wonderful to see a family business like this, because honey is such a magical treat of nature.
The showroom was empty, but two lovely ladies staffed the shop with smiles and lots of helpful tips. Being that we came in from Western Australia and that we could not take any honey back home with us, for biosecurity and quarantine reasons, we still got into the tastings.
Most of their honey traces its origin back to the "mallee" tree, a species of eucalypts which grows with multiple stems that emanate out from the base of the tree. I tried the Coastal Mallee Honey first which was a light honeycomb flavour and delicious. But the next one I tasted was the Purple-Flowered Mallee. This was my winner. It had a really great toffee-like taste.
The history room downstairs was interesting, but I could not help feeling the whole space looked more like a Year 3 classroom, than a retail shop. It would have made the room infinitely more appealing to have it dressed out professionally. Trust me, I've been to many "honey shops" and you could apply many lessons from them to here.
Nonetheless, I like my time here. It was informative and fun.

I absolutely love honey, so this was my kind of heaven. Would definitely recommend visiting, perhaps next time we would do a guided tour of the farm/facilities and maybe we would have seen a bit more. But the ice-cream is a must have, along with the beer!

I wasn’t too excited about visiting this honey farm, but it was an inclusion on our package tour so along we went. Our speaker was informative, interesting and amusing. I leant a lot about bees and honey. I’m not a big fan, but I enjoyed the honey drink and the tasting.
The ‘see through’ honey hive was interesting too, and we loved the shop, especially the chocolate honeycomb.
