About
Established by the Jesuits in 1851, Sevenhill Cellars is the oldest winery in South Australia's Clare Valley and the only Jesuit-owned winery in Australia. Originally established to produce altar wine, Sevenhill is now recognised for its premium table wines, which express the Clare Valley's distinctive varietal characteristics. The historic winery and cellar door, St Aloysius' Church, the College building, surrounding vineyards and spiritual sites give visitors an opportunity to combine appreciation of exceptional wines with an understanding of Sevenhill's religious and historic significance. You can discover this rich heritage by following our walking trail using a self-guided map, which are available at Cellar Door.

Good wine tasting experience

Excellent service. The cellar staff member (a young guy - didn’t get his name) was very knowledgeable. Do yourself a favour and do the walk too.

A Clare Icon
Sep. 2021
Visited after over 20 years since previous visit. Good friendly service and staff had a good knowledge of their product. Grounds worth a look around. A must visit if in Clare. Quality wines.

Very friendly cellar door tasting with a rustic ambience.

We came on Clare gourmet gala weekend but most people were interested in the food and wine event so we headed to the cellar for tasting and purchase. Our friends from interstate bought a good selection. We also did a self guided tour of the wine cellar.
The grounds are large with lovely old stone buildings.

Hi Rose, Great to hear you a lovely time. Yes a very busy week here in the Clare Valley but we always offer our normal Cellar Door offering to those who don't wish to participate in the Gourmet food and music event. We look forward to seeing you again another time!

Really enjoyed the Sevenhill wine and hospitality! Beautiful grounds and an interesting history to be found at this winery, which is also a stop along the Reisling Trail.

If you miss this you missed a lot

We started by doing the free, self guided walking tour. This, by itself, was worth the cost of admission. The pamphlet gave just the right amount of information. It was reasonably easy to follow the route and took us about a lazy hour. We did not take the side trip to the cemetery.

After tour we did a tasting. We were asked to choose 5 wines from a list of about 12 plus 3 fortified. We shared one “flight” being concerned that Mr Plod might be lurking with his RBT.

It was fantastic. The best tasting we have ever had. The wines were brilliant. The servings sufficiently generous that we could both get the full experience. To top it off, our hostess was charming.

There is a nominal charge for the tasting but if you buy some, it is waived. The wines were so good we bought a selection of six.

Lovely to hear you had such a fabulous time. Doing the walking tour is such a nice way to get a feel of Sevenhill Cellars through our extensive history. I hope you continue to enjoy Sevenhill with the wines you have taken home with you. See you next time!

Amazing history and wine
Apr. 2021
The Jesuits were on to a good thing when they set out vines in the Clare Valley worth a visit just to see the gorgeous buildings.

Aren't we lucky they chose this amazing piece of the Clare Valley!! We truly appreciate the history and landscape of Sevenhill. They had great vision, which we can all continue to enjoy for many years to come. See you again another time.

Meh
Apr. 2021
Average. The spectacular grounds and property let down by the cost and service. Despite paying over $60 for a tasting platter (which you select from a fridge and make yourself) and purchasing a bottle of wine to go with it, we were still charged for our other tasting fees x 3 ($10 per tasting), girl serving us rude. Not a vibe, spend your money elsewhere.

Good wine tasting selection, their sweet wines are the best ! They do a sparkling Shiraz and sacramental wine. Can visit the cellar to tour the barrels and art.

No reds over 5 years old
Mar. 2021 • Couples
No reds over 5 years old, is this a real winery? Asked to taste their oldest & finest red but could not find one, therefore went and spent money elsewhere.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed, we have a special stock of museum wines that we have in Cellar Door on a regular basis. At the moment we have a aged Riesling, a 2013 Brother John Shiraz and a 2013 St Ignatius. I hope you will come back another time to see what special museum stock we have in at the time.
