Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is a little more up the coast than the other popular beaches , not the waves as at other beaches close to some fish and chip shops .School hoilday time parking seems to be a problem .there is a small skate park if you in to that type of thing.

Dicky Beach is located within Caloundra along the Sunshine Coast.
The wreck and remnants of the SS Dicky, can still be seen during low tide, which is what the beach was named after.
A great beach for swimming and for many other water sports.
It is also safe as it is a patrolled beach by the Dicky Beach Surf Life Saving Club.
There is also a caravan park located right on the waterfront.

Often overlooked, Dicky Beach is a great alternative to Kings Beach. The surf is not as active as Kings Beach, which is great for families with youngsters. There is an enclave of classy shops and cafes in the area.
The beach is less crowded than Kings, but no less enjoyable. If you tire of getting pummelled in the surf, you will love Dicky Beach with its interesting history.

Dicky Beach is to my knowledge the only beach named after ship; the SS Dicky, a 226 ton steam ship that ran aground during heavy seas in February 1893. She was re-floated, but heavy seas turned the ship about and back onto the sand where she remained. Dicky Beach remains the only recreational beach in the world to be named after a shipwreck. Dicky Beach is a beautiful patrolled beach and is very safe provided you swim within the flagged areas.
In 2014, the Sunshine Coast Regional Council decided that the deterioration of the wreck was creating a hazard for swimmers due to sharp edges becoming revealed by shifting sand. The decision was taken to relocate the wreck away from the beach. That project got a fair bit of local support, as many locals thought the wreck was going to be removed intact and relocated for preservation purposes. However, what the Council actually did was cut off the bits above the sand and move them to who knows where; since when does marine archeology aimed a preservation morph into bureaucratic vandalism? A year or so down the line the remaining bits of the wreck left below the sand are now becoming exposed.
A few well placed signs would have been far cheaper and easier.
The Beach is patrolled by lifesavers from the Dicky Beach Surf Life Saving Club which is about 50 metres from the sand. The Club has a sizeable restaurant and good food with generous servings.
Just a couple of hundred metres from the sand is a small and comprehensive shopping centre with most of the necessary shops, including a great cafe with outstanding breakfasts and several other fast food outlets. There's a small supermarket, a great butcher, a bottle shop (aka off licence), a pharmacy (aka chemist) and a great little restaurant. This shopping area retains it's old world charm and locals hope it never gets taken over, torn down and redeveloped.
There is also a large family orientated holiday park/caravan park which is also very close to the beach area.

It's about an hour and ten minutes from Brisbane airport depending on the time of day you set off. Just enough time to get used to the automatic gearbox and the fact that you're in a foreign country but driving on the correct side of the road! Staying in a rented house just a few minutes walk from the parade of shops and eateries that line the main road just a few minutes walk from the beach. Cross the main road and a few minutes walk through a car park and you're on the beach! What a beach as well there's beautiful sand and crashing waves with a water temperature of 20degrees plus, believe it or not, and really friendly lifeguards to watch over your swimming as long as you stay within the flags. If you fancy an indoor meal and/or a drink there's the surf club adjacent but don't forget to take a photo ID and you can sign in as a guest for the day.

For a tourist it'd be easy to simply stick around the Bulcock Beach part of Caloundra, enjoying its hotels, apartments, water views, boardwalk, eateries and bars. I was grateful my hosts drove me around to see other beachfronts. There's a beautiful coast line to explore south of Currimundi, starting at Dicky Beach and moving on to Moffat Beach, Shelley Beach and Kings Beach before reaching Bulcock. Each beach has its own distinctive feel. My hosts prefer Dicky Beach, so that was our starting point.

Calmer area perfect for learning to surf. Lessons at low tide. Suitable for all ages. Multiple instructors per group. $50 for 90 minutes. Small beach area, with rocks and rock pools. Great for young families as water not as rough. 5 min walk from town or from King Beach. Easy access from Esplanade. Water was clearer than at Kings Beach. So many beaches - do them all!

Although you can’t take your dog onto the main part of Dicky Beach, there is an amazing off leash dog beach just a couple hundred meters further along! We took our family dog on his first holiday to Caloundra and looked around for an off leash dog beach - this one was amazing! Lots of friendly dogs for him to socialize with and run around with. Off the beach you needs to put your dog back on leash, there’s a water bowl and a dog wash station too. The surf was a bit too hectic for our little fella but he still loved the opportunity to run around with a bunch of other dogs in the sea air. 😊👍🏽 🐶

Visited on Tuesday 7th July. This is a great beach and used mainly by the locals, has plenty of parking if you need to drive there.

What time does this beach open and close each day? Also can you go swimming between red and yellow flags there?
