- GregTrav28Orlando, Florida699 contributionsDon't skip thisEven better than expected. The pictures don't do it justice to how beautiful the gardens are. If you take your time to really enjoy the gardens expect atleast 2.5hrs here. We took are 3.5 year old and the pram but note you'll have to leave the pram a lot of places due to steps. It was fine to leave it but just for information. Absolutely recommend this and for only $17/adult, can't beat it.Visited March 2024Travelled with familyWritten 23 March 2024
- Don G1 contributionBeautifully restored Art Deco gemEverglades. What a magical experience. The gardens were looking well maintained in the early autumn. Cool & shady on a hot day. The framed views of the Mount Solitary breathtaking. And what privilege to be able to wander alone through a restored Art Deco house and dream about the stories the walls could tell. Without a doubt this was the highlight of our trip to Leura. Chatting to the staff it was clear they shared our joy at finding this gem of luxury, glamour and optimism from another era.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 29 March 2024
- Warrens_of_ConderCanberra, Australia525 contributionsBeautiful historic garden in LeuraAmazing house and garden looked after by the national trust. The garden is terraced and quite compact so seeing all of the garden is very achievable. However some of the paths are quite uneven (especially down to the grotto) so take care when walking. Staff on the entry are very knowledgeable and will assist. Really enjoyed our visit.Visited March 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 31 March 2024

We booked a week in advance during COVID-19, we weren’t told the house was closed and there was no discount to the full price. Scenery was nice. Ticket lady gave us attitude and said we should of checked the facebook despite having called in and asked.

The grounds and views on offer are undoubtedly beautiful (and can imagine they must be even more impressive in spring for floral displays). As an art deco lover the house had one or two interesting points (particularly the staircase and bathrooms), but does not appear especially well maintained and looked shabby in places (no idea what was going on with the carpets but since the original resident was a carpet manufacture he would probably be spinning in his grave to see the carpets as they are now). Biggest gripe was entry fee. Way too high at $16 per adult. When you can enter Chatsworth House and gardens in the UK for just $25 (and Everglades doesn't even come close as a tourist attraction or piece of history and art object) I really do think that the Australian national trust is deluded.

Such a wonderful estate in which to wander. We chose to visit when the spring flowers were at their best. It would be a wonderful place to visit when the autumn trees are changing as well. Make sure to explore the house with its wonderful art deco designs both in and out. We loved the octagonal bath tub! The gardens have "rooms" to visit - rhododendron area, azalea are, lawns dotted with huge trees and a babbling brook, which then becomes a small waterfall in the man made grotto. The vistas into the distance remind one that one is in the mountains. We are very glad that the National Trust is keeping the place in shape for all the public to see. Covid requires booking as numbers in the garden are limited.

Everglades consists of beautiful gardens and impressive architects and artworks. I'm especially impressed with the carved tree trunks. Maybe it’s better to visit the garden in spring or autumn so you can see more flowers.
We didn't get to visit the tea house since it was closed. But overall it's worth the visit.
Ticket purchase: $15 pp

Another must go to place in Leura. The estate is relatively large with nicely laid out gardens, house, log cabin and pool. We were fortunate to go there for the first time early spring when the trees and flowers were in bloom. Lovely place to relax and take scenic photos with friends and family

Spectacular gardens, especially with all the rhododendrons and azaleas in flower.
The house is open and well worth a walk around.
You can only imagine what it would have been like to live there in the 40s and 50s.
A must see when in the Blue Mountains.

Everglades House and Gardens is an amazing site! The owners created this in the 1930s and the house was meant to be just a "weekender"! The house itself has lovely art deco features and the staircase is absolutely wonderful. The gardens are huge and full of colour! There are hundreds of different plants and there are water features, a huge grotto, several ponds, lookouts into the surrounding valley and hills and much more. This is a place well worth visiting.

Firstly overcharged and the gardens and house were extremely disappointing.
The guy at reception was incompetent and lazy and very unpleasant for someone serving in the hospitality business.
I would suggest people can find nicer venues to visit.

We are National Trust Members and we haven't been here for some time. The volunteers do amazing job, specially though the tough times we live in, with covid. We love the Art Deco house and it its colorful bathrooms. It might be Winter, but the garden still looks good, with a small amount of flowers. We also come here for the lovely views of the Blue Mountains.

A lovely gem off the beaten track, so to speak. LOTS of gardens to explore, grottos to find and views to absorb. The tea rooms were closed due to covid but a walk through the house is still ok, especially if you like yellow! A good hour is needed to explore all levels of the gardens.

Is this place suitable for 1-5 y.o children? Not only in terms of accessibility but would they but "disruptive" to the ambience/atmosphere of what seems to be a quiet/peaceful setting?
Written 20 December 2017
I think it would be a lovely place for children, especially in the garden - all the nooks and crannies outside and the space to run and jump too. Just be careful inside the house, but that won't take long.

is it possible toaccess the house without having to walk far ? is the cafe in the house? and are there items of interest to look at in the house ? TIA

Small place? I think not. It takes a while to explore Everglades Gardens given its many levels and large area. The entry fee is comparable with fees for entering Mt Wilson gardens. If you belong to the National Trust you don't pay the fee.
The house is about a 200 metre walk from the entrance. The cafe is in the house, but otherwise there is nothing to see in it and indeed there is no public access to other areas apart from the amenities downstairs.

Will be in the area soon with a couple of older folk, is it easy getting around the garden & to the cottage? Would love to see it all. Would it be fair to say “walking stick friendly “ thanks.
Written 29 November 2017
Manageable for most, my wife accessed all areas whilst using a stick 3 months after major knee surgery. Just take it steady, enjoy te views and stop and put your feet up where necessary. No lift access internally if I recall.

Are dogs allowed to visit in the gardens?
Thanks Gillian
Written 30 May 2017
I rather think that No is the answer, unless your dog is a companion dog.

Hi Pam,
Well worth a visit, a lovely home and the gardens are so pretty. Be sure to have tea and scones by the fire in the house, really delicious!
