Visited the trout farm two adults and two kids. For a start I didn’t think it was very reasonably priced just to get in and go fishing was $70, however that did include two fishing rods.
Considering it’s a reasonably big tourist attraction in the area I didn’t think the managers or owners were particularly friendly and welcoming. I thought they would be offering more advice and tips on how to fish that didn’t seem to happen. Two of us were fishing at a time and we fished for 90 minutes with no luck. So then your options are to leave without a fish or purchase them from the reception on the way out.
I believe the trout hatchery in another part of Jindabyne has a feeding experience that’s quite interesting for the kids however of course no fishing there.
So it would be good if you wanted to give your children or were keen on a fishing experience yourself, but of the hundreds of trout that were in the two pool areas, I was surprised we didn’t catch anything. Seems like no one else that was fishing there at the same time as us caught anything either with the exception of one person.

Hi ATJacko,
You would have received advice on entry to the farm and specific instruction on trout fishing by me, you would not receive a rod, net and bait without instruction.Equally we do not guarantee a catch, it is fishing after all.
We add that recent hot weather has proven to make trout fishing more challenging and time constraints are an issue. This is why we offer trout for sale if success at the ponds or the Lake is not yours.
We advise a number of trout were caught on the 13th and as the last trout fishing experience in NSW you can have a go, the pond to plate experience is truly unique and we have maintained this experience while hey, not all on every day will have the same outcome, it is fishing.

It’s a small place and people tend to crowd around 2 ponds. The facility was not in the best of condition however the fishing equipment was adequate. Though we did catch a couple of fish fish, it was certainly not worth the effort.

Unfortunately, like many previous reviews we left disappointed after visiting the trout farm. When we entered we were given 2 rods that looked like they should have been left out for the council clean up and some basic fishing instructions. We made our way to the dirty murky concrete holing tanks where we proceeded to fish side by side with another 20 people for our allocated hour. Unfortunately we were not successful as were most of the others fishing alongside us. I understand that there are no sure things when it comes to fishing, but apart from the dead fish that was floating belly up in the pond it was very slow. The place smelt and the grounds were untidy and it was far from the relaxed fishing experience in the country we had hoped for.

Mjd, let us look at this, “many previous reviews” are extremely happy, as for new rods these are damaged in many cases on the first use, so no stress for all we do ensure they are “fit for purpose.”Instruction is based on need with a the briefing varied to accommodate the audience and answering any questions that arise, this is far from basic. You are able to fish in our awesome lake, which seems you should have done! or the ponds totally” your choice “and with Covid we limit pond fishing to 15.
It is possible a trout was belly up as in cases of a trout not being landed it may demise, this is hard to manage but if it does occur as soon as we are aware we attend to.
The grounds are not “untidy” with the breaking of the drought resulting in fast growth , your comment I’d refuted.
There is no time constraint enforced either.
We uniquely offer the unusual chance to “catch and cook a trout in NSW and yes it can be challenging particularly as the weather warms, so yes”no sure thing when it comes to fishing”, but what a great chance, read the many reviews confirming this fun.

Went out to the trout farm today. It is a long drive and you need to want yo go there as its highly unlikely you would pass it on the way to somewhere else.
Their website says to pre book, which we did. Given its not an enormous place, pre booking makes sense. So if you want to go, follow the advice in the website.
The equipment given on arrival was adequate, the instruction given was more than enough to get us going. During the course of our afternoon, the owners came down and gave helpful hints and advice to those in our group not getting a bite.
We each caught a fish, some easily, some after a while, but everyone got a fish, including our 4 year old. The fish were then prepared, half to take home, half to cook on the bbqs. The instructions for cooking were also perfect, the fish cooking beautifully. The accompanying chips and salad were perfect with the trout.
I will definitely be back, we all commented as we left how great an experience it was at a very reasonable price.

Took a day trip from Goulburn to Eucumbene Trout Farm and were well rewarded for our efforts. This place is a hidden gem and we all loved the fishing (ages are 34, 29, 5 and 4) so quite the age range. Peter was so friendly and helpful. There are bbq's to cook the trout and a play set for the kids. Didnt get to try the cafe unfortunately but will definately be going back to do so.

We stayed at the Cottage for a few nights and had a wonderful relaxing time. Such a bonus to be able to fish the lake from first light to sun down. Awesome! Oh and a better than 2 kilo fish in the first half hour.. Styling

After reading the last few reviews I was a bit nervous but we had a lovely morning. Went Easter Monday so it was very busy. We caught 2 of our allowed 4, but plenty of bites to keep the kids keen. Water very clean and could see the lovely trout swimming around. The staff were very knowledgeable and the lady was very lovey and helpful. Fish were cleaned and prepared for lunch. Clear instructions for cooking and had a lovely lunch with hot chips and salad. A nice drive and a nice way to spend the morning.

Do not bother trying to book or call.
This business is closed - ‘indefinitely’.
It’s not advertised on the website however, so ringing up to enquire about fly fishing- barely even got my question out before being cut off. It’s due to covid and patrons not socially distancing.
Such a bummer. Oh well, off to the lake :)!

Hi, if you can get around with COVID great, what we see most simply cannot. Our major customer base is in lock down, ABNB are moving all their bookings, leaves us with little and even those are most likely should be at home.
We do not want to spread it,
We don’t want to get it,
So until this threat is past,
We will see you in the future
Please stay safe and think of others
So you rate us poorly for staying safe, we are helping keep you safe.

Our first time to do this kind of activity. The kids loved it. We learnt how to fish, caught two, and the owner cleaned the fish to prepare for bbq.
The kids really enjoyed it and would want to go back.

This place alone is worth a trip to the Snowies! Peter and Karen are very gracious hosts and the farm is a serene haven. Gorgeous cosy cabin overlooking the lake. Aside from fishing and award winning smoked trout, there are also lots of animals wondering around to entertain the kids. Thankfully the area was untouched by the recent bush fires. We will be back to stay again for sure.

Hi Siany,
We are so happy to again welcome visitors to our little business and yes not touched by the recent dreadful fires, but certainly impacted being closed. The awesome work by the RFS is a huge credit to them and we all can thank them.
We are open it is pouring rain hopefully the dams will fill again!
Hope to see you again.
