Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Just outside Queenstown you will find the sign and car park for Horseshoe Falls. The walk itself is a walkway which hugs the side of the mountain as you climb ever higher to the falls. You can see the falls fairly early so continuing to climb only improves your view. A great walk, the falls were ok but probably would be better in winter. Take a coat as you’re fairly high and the weather can change quickly.

First things first Horseshoe falls are seasonal, so Winter/Spring probably the best time to visit when the falls benefit from some good old west coast Tassie rainfall.
What you will see is a main single flow of water that then splits into two over the rocks, thus forming a horseshoe shape (ish), hence the name.
Regardless of water levels, this is a terrific, dramatic short walk offering great views of the broader landscape up above and around Queenstown.
Walking along a very sturdy metal boardwalk that is attached to the side of the mountain face.
Mainly on the same level with just a couple of short sections with steps that take you through to a main viewing area.
The walk is about a 30minute round trip, 1 km distance.
Well signposted and located adjacent to the main A10/Lyell Highway about 5-10 minutes' drive out of Queenstown.
Very large parking area suitable for all.
A good place to stop for a break and a leg stretch during a long drive or if staying in Queenstown a very quick convenient attraction to visit.

Another beautiful walk around Queenstown. Horsetail Falls was a great 20 minute walk for the family to see a huge waterfall.
Right across the road was Iron Blow Lookout and the old mining town of Gormanston.
Queenstown has so much to explore and discover especially if you ask the locals where the non-tourist hikes, walks, waterfalls and rock pools are.

A short and exhilarating walk with magnificent mountain views. Not too strenuous but quite a number of steps. Be careful with young children as the fencing has big gaps in some sections. Our 3yo twins enjoyed the challenge though.

Stopped off here to do walk on a cold, windy and rainy day. You need a little bit of fitness to be able to do this walk as there are many steps up to view falls. The day was terrible when we did it and we finally got up to the top and I must say that the view up top is not much better than bottom or half way up so really not necessary to go all the way. It would have been a nicer walk if weather had of been nice. Glad we did it as it was definitely a challenge to get up to top.

Was a nice unexpected surprise to come across these falls as we drove out of Queenstown. Well maintained steps in place to make the walk much easier getting to the top.
Easy to pull in and park from the main Rd.
You only need around half an hour to walk up, take in the views and walk back to your car

It's all a matter of chance really during the dryer seasons but we managed to visit just after rain had fallen and the falls were in full flight. Would be stunning during the winter and the new path to the falls makes it all that easier. If you are in Queenstown take the 5 minutes it takes to get to the falls and take a look.

A short 1.1km walk (one way) that rises 83m from Carpark. We completed it on a sunny day at around 4pm.
A boardwalk with many steps in excellent condition. Best to bring water as can be quite tiring.
Nice area views however no visible waterfall - at least to my eyes

The view of the Falls itself isn't fabulous but the walk is pretty amazing. It's one of those things that you see from the car and just know you "have" to do. Very cool experience. Feels like you've arrived on another planet!
Make sure you head up the Iron Blow Lookout opposite as well. Highly recommend making time for both of these if you are passing through.

We sighted Horsetail Falls a short distance past the Queenstown - Gormanston boundary marker. Good cascade of water over the cliff face. We decided not to venture closer as it had begun to rain.
