My niece and her mum booked us on this boat on our trip to The Whitsundays. The trip takes you snorkelling (or on the glass bottom boat) to Black Island, then to Daydream Island and also the famous Whitehaven Beach. All of the staff are so friendly, helpful, accommodating and knowledgeable. They provide all of the snorkelling gear and give specific instructions on what to do and how to behave. You are given free tea, coffee and cake and are also served with lunch and afternoon snacks so you wont go hungry. A lovely cocktail is given to you at the end. The whole day (approx 8-5) was just simply amazing. It was the best day of my holiday to Australia and these guys really made it for me.

Everything about our day was great. We got picked up from outside our resort and driven to the boat. Whitehaven was spectacular, snorkelling was in a fantastic location, and then a stop at Daydream Island was a relaxing finish to the day. The boat was spacious and comfortable, the food was good and there was plenty of it, and the staff were all really helpful, friendly and knowledgable. And a big shout out to Spider-Man the photographer - great photos and good value. Thanks Reefstar. We all had an amazing day. Mike, Natasha, Hannah & Hayley.

My friend and I took a day trip to the Whitehaven beach with snorkel and bush walk to the Inlet Hill lookout with the Reefstar Cruises from the Airlie Beach. It was an excelently organized tour. They take you with 2 zodiac boats from the big catamaran boat to the snorkel spot and they divide people into two groups for the walk to the lookout point and take them there in a smaller boat. There was a French girl Victoria, who also speaks Chinese and English, in the crew, who was taking excellent care of each passenger. She took us for the walk to the lookout which is the best part of the day trip. She told us the history of the site.

They offered coffee and tea with cookies in the morning and nice lunch and then watermelon, cookies, crackers and cheese in afternoon.

I highly recommend this company and the tour.

We booked this trip after reading all the hype about the Whitsunday Islands, the wonderful beaches and the island walk coupled with snorkelling. This is an old tired boat in need of serious updating and maintenance. The upstairs open air seating is old plastic and uncomfortable, when there are a number of people up there it is also cramped. The downstairs interior is tired with some broken seats. The trip consists of being sailed out to an island and then slowly transported on small inflatables to the island. We waited 30 minutes to be transferred, as two small boats were taking up to 120 people 6 at a time. Remember you do get wet doing this. The island may be idilic or would be if it were not crowded. You March in file up the hill meeting a constant stream of people from other boats coming the other way. The look out point is crowded and you look down onto a beach (very pretty but full of people). There are plenty of other beaches in Australia all accessible for free and most of them empty. You then go down to Whitehaven beach and have a paddle for about an hour (less if you were on the last boat over). The beach has various other parties on it and their Rib Boats parked on the shore. You then have the wet transfer back to the main boat and lunch is served as you are transferred to the snorkelling island. This was a good place although there were some concerns with the small transfer boats having to weave their way through snorkellers already in the water. The other option is the glass bottomed boat this got very good feed back from our fellow travellers. You then go to Daydream Island Resort, Why? This is a resort hotel you can walk around, it has a few kangaroos and an interesting water feature in and around the buildings that are full of sharks, rays and fish. You then sit on loungers looking at the sea, this most people can accomplish on the mainland. Do it if you must, elderly and physically impaired will have problems with the boat transfers. People with young children will find that there is little to keep the young ones occupied. Backpackers and those on budgets save your money.

Well, you certainly have taken the wind out of our sails. Over the past 15 months operating this particular trip, we have received such positive feedback from the elderly, families and backpackers. So, to go from excellent to terrible in one day is disappointing. Our vessel is the only enclosed, air conditioned vessel operating a dedicated day trip in the Whitsundays. Because we limit passenger numbers to one third of the vessel’s capacity, taking only 85 – 95 guests out of a 284 permitted guest capacity, guests appreciate the non-crowding and room for families and prams. We do visit the iconic sites of the area, therefore, you do need to share this experience with others. Due to the high tide only access at Hill Inlet, all vessels converge on the area over a three hour period. However, the panoramic view from the lookout far outweighs the necessity of sharing with others. Access to Hill Inlet is restricted to open tenders due to the shallow waters and all operators transfer passengers this way. We have a high staff to passenger ratio the ensure passenger safety. Especially the less mobile who are assisted where necessary. With our help, persons in wheelchairs have been to the lookout, so, it is possible with the right attitude. The heavy rain event and strong winds certainly took the shine out of the Whitsundays for you and the other 57 passengers on the day of your travel. Most days, the Whitsundays are spectacular. We will review our operation and determine what the anomaly was on the day and where we can, we will make improvements.

Disappointing cruise. Didn't go to advertised location (Langford Reef). Instead it went to a deserted/closed resort at Hook Island where underwater visibility was terrible (less than 1m) and the entire place was infested with huge March Flies which repeatedly stung you. I specifically booked this tour because it went to Langford Reef (as stated in brochure) and was reassured this was the case when booking. When I questioned why we'd gone to a different location I was informed "due to conditions". This information is false though because the day before I was fortunate to visit Langford Reef and the conditions were perfect - visibility of over 15m and swam with 3 turtles. It was incredible.

Consequently the packed boat was full of people complaining about poor conditions at Hook Island. Indeed, many people asked to be taken off the beach back to the ship earlier to get away from stinging flies as everyone was sat around on the beach bored, and snorkeling was a waste of time. Even the official photography employed by Reef Star told me "conditions are terrible here". Pity as much effort didn't go into properly researching conditions at locations as they did into the constant and irritating up-selling of photos and tacky montages.

Also be aware that (unlike other operators) the ship cannot pull up to the beach, so 130 people have to be taken to the beach by a small inflatable tender which can only take 10 people at a time. So even when you get to Whitehaven beach, 40+ minutes are wasted ferrying people backwards and forwards. The end result was a ship full of disappointed passengers.

Misleading and deserving of a refund particularly as it took you to a location NOT as advertised, which was an unacceptable decision given the superior visibility (and abundant turtles and sealife) at Langford Reef where it should haven taken you.

I was unsure about this cruise because of numbers on the boat, but chose because, despite low tides, we were able to be taken to Tongue Inlet. Other smaller cruises couldn’t do this on the day. We booked early enough for a limited number to get into this beautiful area before tide depth dropped.
My fears about the larger numbers on the cruise were groundless. We receive personal attention throughout the day by fabulous crew members. I had an amazing experience snorkelling, and felt very well supported and safe. I was the last person to return to the boat, and didn’t feel at all rushed. I was also impressed by the care taken to assist children who wanted to snorkel.
The food served was simple, very fresh and plentiful.
I thoroughly recommend Reef Cruise Ultimate Cruise, based on my wonderful full day experience.

These guys do it right.
Right from the get go, the entire staff of 6/7 were happy, professional and pleasant to be around. The entire day was extremely well organized, the boat was extremely spacious (it wasn't sold out) but still a verge comfortable boat with air con.
Great for our 7 month old, who had a blast.
Saw turtles, Rays, little sharks (yellow sharks) I think all in the ocean along with too many fish to count.
The cocktails at the swim up bar left a lot to be desired, would recommend a beer/cider or something. That was my only knock on the whole day, but has nothing to do with reef star.
A+ all around for these guys.
Great cruise for couples, families or people looking for a relaxed type day.
Young backpacker looking for a party, I think there are better options.
Happy travels!!

I had the pleasure of cruising around the Whitsundays on this fabulous vessel. It was comfortable, spacious and most of all smooth sailing. The crew were fantastic, always happy to help and sharing great information and stories of the surroundings. I had the best day snorkelling the reef, delicious food and amazing islands. Thanks to the captain and crew of Seastar 2001 for helping my family make some great memories.
