If you have to make a trip of a lifetime, this is it! And the trip to take is one with Kimberley Spirit Tours. Travelling to this remote part of Australia required commitment and taking risks, including months of planning and possible last minute cancellation due to border closures! But it was worth every bit of it. What made it especially rewarding was meeting and befriending Scotty Connell, owner, guide and deft driver of our private 4WD tour of the Kimberley! Scotty is a local with a deep passion for the place and a strong commitment to the Kimberley and its people.
We had vague ideas of the rugged beauty and splendour of the Kimberley region but were wholly unprepared for what lay before us. Harsh landscapes, sweeping ranges, startling colours of wildflowers, steep chasms, unbelievably beautiful gorges, cascading waterfalls, deep freshwater pools, starlit skies, amazing wildlife. We learned about the ancient landscapes, the amazing geology, the profound history of Indigenous Australians and their connection to the land, the stories of pastoralists and pioneers. We had a thoroughly immersive experience, all made possible through Scotty’s extensive knowledge and experience of the Kimberley.
We were a family of six (ranging from my 11yo daughter to my 80yo stepdad) and comfortably fitted into Scotty’s well-equipped 4WD. While every aspect of our tour was carefully planned and prepared, there was also great flexibility. We stopped for photos, we stopped to take in the views, we stopped to reflect and ponder. We undertook activities within each person’s level of agility and physical fitness. There was indeed something for everyone. We felt incredibly blessed and fortunate to have been able to make this tour and grateful to Scotty for making it so special for us!
In his words, “if you come to the Kimberley with an open heart and an open mind, you will leave feeling richer in ways you’d never dream of”. This was certainly true for us. Thank you Scotty, for the trip of a lifetime.
It’s worth mentioning that these tours book out quickly so start planning and book early! We will certainly be planning our next trip soon!

Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review. Unfortunately I’ve been locked out of this account and am finally back in. I loved reading your feedback and many others also. It’s really incredible to say the least. I hope you visit me again for some more Kimberley adventures sometime. There’s always another adventure waiting around the corner. Take care and stay stoked! :)

My father has always wanted to visit the Kimberley so we decided that this was the year to do it. This is not the typical holiday that my family would usually go on (husband and two boys 7 & 9), however booking a Kimberley Spirit tour with Scotty was such a great decision.
From start to finish the trip was stress free and fantastic. Bruce was so helpful through the planning stage and then the actual tour itself with Scotty was better than any of us could have imagined.
Scotty somehow managed to cater everything perfectly for the entire family (very impressive given the age range of 78 - 7 yrs). He was able to provide a tour that suited my adrenaline loving 9 year old while ensuring that my fathers dream holiday was everything that he had hoped it would be. My dad describes the tour as the “best holiday I have ever had” . We loved every single activity and adventure.
This truely was a trip of a lifetime. We saw places of such beauty that we were speechless. We learnt so much about the land and culture. We met amazing people along the way. This is a place that needs to be experienced to be believed.
We now have memories of a holiday that exceeded expectations in every single way and has us asking “when” not “if” we will go on another tour with Scotty.

We've done two Kimberley Spirit Tours (2019,2022) and couldn't recommend them high enough! The Kimberley is an incredible part of the world, where you have to pinch yourself daily to be sure you're not dreaming.
What makes it even better is a tour guide like Scotty! Scotty is the most professional yet easy-going tour guide, always thinking about every detail of the day to make sure you have the best experience.
His ability to know what you want to do, without even asking, is second to none.
Scotty's network of friends in the area also allows a red carpet service and experience at most of the spots and stops.

My husband and I hired Scotty to guide us on a 7 night East Kimberley tour with no expectations, just a vague notion of the beauty and culture of the area. Every day was jaw dropping, often starting with a spectacular hike leading to a gorgeous swimming spot, and Scotty was so thoughtful in planning our days to expose us to all the area had to offer, balanced with the outdoor temperatures and sun. Not only does Scotty know everyone, his connections allowed us to see and experience areas we might not otherwise have visited. We covered a lot of ground, bought Akubras (hats), found out what a billabong is, traversed the Pentecost River on the Gibb Road in Scotty's wicked 4X4, and chased sunsets. And those weren't even the main attractions which included Kununurra, the Ord River, El Questro, the Bungle Bungles and Parry Lagoons Nature Reserve. Scotty shared his passion, his family and his vast local knowledge with us, and we feel like we made a new friend. We highly recommend Scotty and Kimberley Spirit and hope to be back.

We’ve travelled to more than 150 countries between us, so it was hard to think of a unique place to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary. When my husband suggested the Kimberley, I was worried that we would be surrounded by grey nomads for our special break..! Then my husband shared Scotty’s @kimberleyspirit profile and I knew he was onto something. As soon as we landed in Kununurra, Scotty was waiting with his signature akubra and big smile ready to take us on an adventure of a lifetime. We headed straight to a helicopter flight over Revolver falls where we landed and swam along the crest of highest single drop waterfall in WA. It was magic. Over the following days, we went from adventure to adventure, “living life” as Scotty called it. Visiting hidden gems throughout the vast stretch of land known as the Kimberley, Scotty knew the place like the back of his hand. We hiked through beautiful valleys and hills, saw the incredible Bungles and Cathedral Gorge (at the start of dry season, so there were 6 of us!), ate a delicious three-course meal made of local Kimberley ingredients in the outback, watched the worlds best sunrises and sunsets (trust me, we’ve seen a lot) and saw more stars in those few nights than we have in 10+ years in Singapore. Scotty showed us the incredible rivers and waterways around Lake Argyle and we could understand why many come to this part of Australia and never leave. We experienced the Kimberley from the sky, land and water - the way it has to be done. And still, we barely scratched the surface. If you’re looking for someone to show you the real Kimberley, 10/10 recommend Scotty and @Kimberleyspirit. And thank you Scotty for everything!

Hey Raagulan + Anu, thanks so much for taking the time to write a review. As you know, you’re our very first SINGAPORE guests for 2024! It’s really cool to have you pave the way for many more from your neck of the woods to join us for a safari. I had a great time adventuring with you both and it was an honour to be a part of your 10 year wedding anniversary celebrations. Thank you so much for considering us at Kimberley Spirit for your special occasion. It really was a wonderful experience for me as well. Hope to see you both again in the not to distant future. Take care, Scotty.

Had a wonderful day getting an excellent mix of cultural and natural experiences with an informative and down to earth guide. Multiple opportunities to take a dip in various pools culminating in a unique opportunity to experience the warm springs at El Questro. Scotty is incredibly passionate about the region and the people which shows in the way he gives reverence to both. If you only have one day in the Kimberley’s , spend it with him. Better still budget more time and get to see and do even more. All in all it was a great experience, one that we will fondly remember for the rest of our lives.

Our family of 5 (2 adults and 3 kids under 10) joined a tour of East Kimberley with Scotty. From the planning stage, Scotty was very helpful and flexible, so we could arrange a tour to suit our limited travel time (since we coming from Hong Kong) and our interests.
On the tour we had an amazing time being in the outback, crossing rivers in the 4WD, going on hikes, bird and crocodile spotting, swimming in natural springs, glamping in Purnululu, the list goes on. Scotty was very knowledgable and shared with us his love of the region. Our flight was delayed and Scotty arranged a boat trip on the Ord river which ended up to be one of the highlights of our trip!
If you are looking for a personalised tour of the Kimberley, we would highly recommend Scotty and his team.

This was our first trip to East Kimberley after frequent visits to Broome. I have wanted to visit the Bungle Bungles for a number of years and as very other man and his dog is visiting Broome at the moment we thought it was time to go. Kimberley Spirit and Scotty Connell had been recommended by some friends who had travelled with him earlier this year. We had high expectations and were not disappointed. Every aspect of the trip was well organised. We had Bruce (known throughout the region as Scottie's Dad but deserves to be known in his own right too!) for the first few days and then Scotty joined us after that.
Scotty is an inspirational character and a truly generous soul that is willing to share his knowledge and converse on any number of subjects. It is very easy to pass the many miles travelled with the easy banter.
It is impossible to describe the amazing things we saw and experienced. All we can say is get along and see it for yourself and if you want to have true insight into the area and its people go with Kimberley Spirit.

What an incredible 9 days my husband and I spent with Scotty - Kimberley Spirit, touring the East Kimberley. From the moment he picked us up from the airport our Kimberley adventure began. Each day was planned out to make sure we didn’t miss anything and on some days Scotty even added an extra sunrise, waterfall or hike and one night cooked up a barramundi on the top of a mountain watching the sunset. We couldn’t believe the magnificence and beauty of everywhere we were taken and now understand that you really have to see it all for yourself.
We can’t praise Kimberley Spirit tours enough! You couldn’t meet a nicer couple, right from the start with the booking process Scotty and Taminga communicated with us constantly right until the day before our tour started and made sure we had every possible detail.
Thank you both for the best holiday and memories we could have ever wished for, the expert driving, the knowledge, the stories and friendship. We will talk about this trip for a long time.

Thank you so much for the experience on Kimberley Spirit Tours Houseboat on Lake Kununurra. We had a fantastic time onboard and also especially enjoyed your company as a guide and skipper. The houseboats facilities and attentions to detail were professionally arranged and appointed .
The extra services of supply of food and beverage prior to boarding was amazing and the quality second to none, many great surprises including the magnificent snack platter and big 🥩 steaks.
Taminga’s artistic tallent is evident throughout and looking forward to seeing her painting to the exterior to come.
Thanks to both of you for sharing your knowledge and passion for the Kimberley region and family heritage.
We certainly can't wait to return next year
Kind Regards
