Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

We flew over the National Park in a helicopter and it gives you a great impression of the vastness of the Kimberley region. It is simply stunning, even at the end of the dry season. We were lucky enough to see small waterfalls too. While the helicopter tour can be expensive, it gives a different perspective and is worth doing.

We actually did a tour from Kununurra and didnt drive out to the park and glad we did.The road out there is not the best .It is heavily corrigated and rough in spots and we saw lots of cars broken down by the side of the road. The park is beautiful with waterfalls, rock art and lush undergrowth in places. Our guide was good and knew her stuff about the area and was passionate about it.We got to swim in may spots and the falls were amazing.Something I will never forget but I dont think I would do the drive out there

We flew from Kununurra with Aviair. Not cheap but definitely worth it for us. The package includes a packed lunch to carry with you to the Mitchell Falls (Aviair provides an insulated carry bag but it is better to bring your own backpack if you have one), a guided walk from the camp site to the falls and a helicopter view of the falls on the way back to the airstrip.
The walk from the camp site to the Mitchell Falls is an important part of the experience as it goes via the Little and Big Mertens Falls on the Mertens Creek (which joins the Mitchell River below the main Falls.) We went at the end of June when there was still enough water in the Mertens to form a screen at the Little Mertens Falls where there is indigenous art in an easily accessible cave underneath the falls. The trail is classified as category 4 as far as the Little Mertens Falls and category 5 from there to the helicopter landing ground on the far side of the Mitchell River. In fact the going is pretty easy for anyone with hiking experience (I am 73 and my wife is 68) except for the Mertens and Mitchell crossings which could be dangerous in some river conditions. If you go with a guide, as we did, they will help you across. Where we crossed the Mitchell, the water was up to 20 cms deep and fast flowing and the rocks underneath were covered with algae. Our guide suggested we took off our shoes but left our socks on for better adhesion. I ignored her advice and inevitably slipped, getting much of my trousers wet but fortunately not my camera or phone.

This was so amazing! The road into the Mitchell Falls was quite rough and slow going. I would suggest staying at the campgrounds for 2 nights. They is a swimming hole not far from camp which is lovely. They have toilets which are clean and have a pump action. We walked into the falls bringing a packed lunch and helicoptered out which we really thought was the best way. We swam for most of the day in the beautiful fresh water. The ranger was very friendly and helpful.

A day flight that we took with Aviair 21 June 2021 from Kununurra to Northwest parts of the Kimberly and the Mitchell Falls was one of the highlights of our holiday to this area. The tour with our pilot, Hayden and his extensive commentary was professionally executed and interesting. At the Mitchell Falls while my husband did the walk, he assisted me at the top of the falls in gaining an excellent view that I could only manage with his kind help. We found Aviair to be an extremely professional touring business and would highly recommend it.

We flew with Aviair to the Mitchell plateau great scenery on the way
The Helispirit helicopter ride from airstrip to base of the falls for a walk or heli transfer to top of falls
The walk is beautiful, but we took the heli transfer which was well coordinated
The falls are interesting and spectacular with or without flow. Although we had flow the scenery is breath taking
We returned from the the top of the falls in a heli back to the airstrip for a wonderful flight back to kununurra enjoying more scenery
fantastic food and knowledgeable guides
Thank you

I’m not going to sugarcoat the rough roads encountered in order to see this Park. But in some ways it adds to the splendour of the park. We climbed up to the Mitchell Falls and then enjoyed a swim before taking the choppy down.

Went with Avair from Kununurra for the day. Unbelievable. Highly recommend to be able to visit
this most remote, timeless place with stunning geology, Bradshaw art and incredible scenery. Nobody could possibly be disappointed to visit this magic place..

I visited Mitchell Falls with great anticipation, and was not disappointed. The track from camping area is quite challenging, so we flew in by helicopter. The view of the falls is absoluitely fabulous.
