Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Appeared to be a new car park and viewing area to one side of the dam downstream which was easy to access

The Diversion Dam near Kununurra is a spectacular site when the water flows through and is released to meet hydro power requirements and to maintain the water level in Lake Kununurra.
The main highway through Kununurra runs across the dam wall.

Very interesting story goes with this piece of engineering from 1950's (I think.) We drove over it while many of the gates were open and were lucky enough to be able to pull over to the viewing area on the Wyndham side and see huge amounts of water gushing out. A sight to see thats for sure. If you are staying in Kununurra for a few days as we did its worth it to check on the flow just to see it in full flow. Impressive to say the least. The history of how it was built is also very interesting to hear from a local. Try the victors bureau or one of the tours to Argyle or Ord River both will provide the history.

This structure is awesome. To travel into Kununurra from Halls Creek and Wyndham area you have to go over the dam. The only way in. Water water everywhere. Fantastic scenery that you can't miss.

This river has been dammed, not by concrete, but by the natural dirt and rock in the area. The dam is very sturdy and strong with a great road over it. Its highest capacity, which has not yet been reached, is 55 times the volume of Sydney Harbour. It has reached 44 times the volume. It is very spectacular to see and visit.

This is a lovely spot to sit & relax under the trees.
You can get some great photographs of the water coming over the dam from the Lions Park.

Great engineering, but no where to park to view, which means no board to read about construction etc. one can only drive across it.

Health and Safety rules have once again ruined it for the majority or normal and responsible people. You used to be able to access the bottom of the dam for fishing as well as exploring but not anymore with it all fenced off. Nice view when you drive across it but that is it.
