We participated in a Mitchell Falls Tour (k7) in mid August. From the very beginning, all the staff were incredible. We booked online - confirmation of our booking took a few days (peak of tourist season). We found the whole Kingfisher team so friendly and welcoming! Rosie with the airport transfers, The pilot (Elodie) and our tour guide (Kolya) were so knowledge and happily shared their wisdom and stories of local attractions and features with dedication and passion. Small group sizes helped in bringing a personalised feel to tour. Kolya’s incredible personality and sense of humour made the experience so enjoyable. The tour included flights, helicopter ride, tour, morning tea, lunch and wine/beer and cheese for afternoon tea. This tour provided the perfect balance of culture, scenery and adventure and gave us the opportunity experience a remote part of the Kimberley that would have otherwise been too difficult for our circumstances. This tour checked off one of my bucket list items in a safe, secure and comfortable way. I can not recommend Kingfisher Tours highly enough!

Our guide was Bec who is a local Gija woman and whose “Country” we were lucky enough to visit and be part of for a day. Bec’s storytelling helped us paint a picture of Purnululu (Bungle Bungles) that only a local custodian could do. Letting us take a glimpse into the way of life, culture, lore and customs, traditions and song lines connected to ‘her country’.

Once we were inside the Cathedral Gorge space and waterway. Bec made us all sit down, put our phones down and become silent as we soaked in the serenity and sacredness of the place. She then sang us a song in local language which I think was welcoming us onto this part of the country as well as honoring her ancestors. It was hauntingly beautiful with the stunning acoustics of the space.

From here we made our way over to Echidna Chasm, which is at the other end of the park. It felt like we were entering ‘Jurassic Park’ as we made our way along the dry river bed, with majestic red rocks and massive palm trees towering over us as we entered the Echidna Chasm. Bec stopping and telling us stories along the way, she sang here too.

Make sure you take plenty of water, sunscreen, camera, good hat and hiking shoes/boots, sense of adventure to soak it all in!

I highly recommend Kingfisher Tours on their Bungles Day Trek which included Cathedral Gorge and Echidna Chasm.

From the moment we were picked up at our accommodation, they delivered.
We were each given an ergonomic backpack with our (healthy & tasty) lunches and a double walled bottle filled with icy water.
The 5 of us on our tour flew to Purnululu park in a 13 seater plane as Elle, our pilot was picking up a larger group for the return flight. Elle gave an interesting and informative commentary on the flight across.
We booked with Kingfisher because we wanted a local custodian as guide and Bec Sampi certainly delivered! She has a vast knowledge from plants to customs and is an amusing raconteur. She really enriched the experience for our group. One of the highlights for us was Bec singing to our group in cathedral gorge. Magical!
Another huge plus for us was the size of the group (5 in total), which made the experience that much more personal.
Bec met us off the plane with morning tea pastries and tea and coffee and then drove us into Purnululu park in a 4WD, from where we did a hike into Cathedral Gorge and to The Window.
On the return to the airport, Bec magically produced wine, beer & cheese and biscuits!
The return flight was a small 5 seater and the route different - flying over the Arglye Diamond mine site was interesting.
Bravo Kingfisher! We do not usually like taking tours - but loved this experience.
It is worth every penny!

We took a two-night Bungle Bungle tour as well as a separate day trip to Mitchell Falls with Kingfisher and I couldn't recommend them highly enough. They were very well organised, friendly and helpful and kept us informed of any minor changes (pick up times etc.). I'm also gluten free and the meals (morning tea/lunches) they organised were amazing. Their Purnululu guide Bec Sampi was really informative and helpful.

Hi Clare, Thanks so much for taking the time out to leave a review on your trip with us. We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your meals! We've done our research into our favourite substitutes for any dietary requirements - if we wouldn't eat it we certainly wouldn't provide it to guests :) Hopefully we'll see you again in the future.

We did the Bungle Bungles/Purnululu National Park guided tour with Kingfisher and would recommend to friends.

Minimal wait at morning pickup, hopped on small plane, roughly 1hr to get to Bungle Bungles, met with our guide Bec Sampi, who educated us about Indigenous history and culture, Echidna Chasm, Cathedral Gorge and the Dome walk was all very good.

Only down side was one female staff member who was unnecessarily sarcastic when i asked a question prior to getting on the plane. Made me feel uncomfortable, and there’s just no need. Everyone and everything else was great and we would do it again in a heartbeat.

Thanks so much for your review, it is such a beautiful day down at the Bungles and walking with custodian for country is just the perfect way to experience this ancient landscape.

We cannot recommend the kingfisher day excursion enough - our guide Rosie was very informative throughout the entire trip and we had the best time.

We were picked up from where we were staying (Hidden Valley Caravan Park) at 6AM sharp, full lunch provided with a 1L bottle of water with plenty of breaks throughout the trek, entertainment provided by our amazing guide Rosie, doorless helicopter flight over Mitchell Falls and plenty of opportunities to swim. We had to carry our own readymade lunches provided by Rosies’ team which wasn’t difficult at all.

Definitely a must do if you are in the area and recommend a travel sickness tablet as turbulence one the home stretch can hard on a full stomach!!!!

Highly recommend Kingfisher Tours and we will definitely be back :-)

Hi Mitchell and Michael, Thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. Great to hear you were entertained by Rosie! I have passed on your feedback. Great suggestion for future guests, we always carry travel calm on us for anyone that isn't used to small planes as it is possible to catch patches of turbulence with the warmth in the arvos - an unavoidable part of flying in the Kimberley. Hoping we will see you back in Kununurra soon :) Cheers, Ioli

The Mitchell falls trek was fantastic. the guide was very knowledgable. The only thing I would say is that if its rated as a level 4 walk they should make sure participants are capable. I was the only young one in a group of retirees and they were unable to make the trek to the bottom of the falls so I ended up missing out on that part which I found disappointing especially at the price.

I can very highly recommend Kingfisher Tours, especially a spiritual and cultural experience with the amazing Rebecca Sampi (known as ‘Bungle Bungle Bec’) in Purnululu National Park. Bec, a local Gija woman who was born and raised in the Kimberley, is the head guide for Purnululu with Kingfisher Tours. Listening to Bec share her stories and listening to her sing the ancient song lines for the area in the natural amphitheatre of Cathedral Gorge, is an absolute tour highlight!

Thank you to Rosie and her team for a glorious trip through the beautiful Kimberley’s. The efficient, warm, personal and caring service made our time in remote and harsh conditions easy, and meant that we could see a lot in a relatively short space of time. I would have no hesitation in recommending kingfisher to curate a boutique experience in a very special corner of Australia.

Kingfisher Tours work in partnership with the local Aboriginal custodians of the area. We did the Purnululu tour and Bec our guide is a local Gija woman. She provided a unique experience for our small group of 4. To have a local guide and small group added so much to rhe experience. We saw the large groups come and go - it looked like they were on a marching tour, while were priveleged to have Bec take the time to tell us about the country and its features. In addition she was incredibly generous in sharing her songs, stories and experiences. I cannot recommend this tour highly enough, both from a personal perspective where I beleive we got the very best experience of the area, but also from an ethical perspective because this is a local company where the money flows to the local community instead of the big players where the locals never see any of the profits.

Thanks so much for touring with us, and supporting local employment for the local community. This is a huge driver for Kingfisher tours and what we do, and you really do have the most extraordinary experience.
