About
The Homestead was built in 1896 by the Durack family, and would have been a very impressive building at the time, with a cool breeze corridor going through the house and 6 rooms coming off it. Relocated in the early 1970s when Lake Argyle was created, the Museum is a testimony to the pioneering spirit of the first European settlers in the Kimberley, and contains many artefacts, an updated family tree, a video showing how the Argyle Dam was created. The Museum is a great place to learn about the history of the Kimberley region, take a coffee break in the relaxing garden, look out for the resident Bower birds and buy some unique souvenirs. The Museum is open between April 1st and September 30th.

Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Thoroughly enjoyed a visit to the Argyle Homestead Museum. Rod the Guide was very informative. The room displays were very interesting and gave you a good appreciation of the history and the pioneers of the area. On leaving he told us of a few places we should see on the main road back. Amazing views of Lake Argyle and the Ord River at a Look Out and also a place to see some Rock Art.

An awful lot of stuff to look at and read - only wish we had more time to spend there. Great visuals and maps showing the establishment of the Argyle Station - an incredible story of pioneer Australia!

The homestead gives a good view of some of the conditions under which early settlers lived. Well worth a visit as part of the Ord River Experience.

We visited the museum after hearing many of our tour guides providing the history of Lake Argyle. It was very interesting and we learnt how difficult it was for the pioneer Durack family.

Ok, has lots of interesting history about the Homested, the staff were lovely and friendly, just too many bus tours pouring in with people pushing in as they are on time limits.

Hi travellingfiddies. Thank you for visiting and leaving your comments on Tripadvisor. We can't predict the large groups and their timings, however we encourage others, if they have the time, to wander around the grounds until they leave. Everyone is most welcome to spend 10 minutes or an hour :)
