We booked a family private lesson for us and our two kids. To start with we had booked a mid-day slot but requested an earlier if one opened up. The team managed to get us into an 8 am start with no problems at all! On the beach, Stephan was encouraging, down to earth and lots of fun. We were also lucky to have Jake join in and help our two groms catch their first waves while Stephan handled the other kids (the adults...)! From the beginning, it was a great experience and we've made the decision to pick up our first surfboards in the next couple of weeks! Thanks everyone for a wonderful introduction to the surfing lifestyle.

I hired a board from Chris and booked a lesson for the following day. Waves were small that day so he offered me options of full refund, go out anyway, or reschedule for the following day which we did. When it came to the lesson he said he had been watching me playing on the board the day before which helped him know what I needed to learn. The lesson was great, and he was patient and kind as well as helpful and encouraging. Thoroughly recommend this guy as an instructor, and I couldn’t fault the whole experience

I've booked 5 private lesson package for my 2 boys aged 6 and 8. Had our first session with Chris and WOW can't believe how knowledgeable, patient and instructive he was. Had both boys up and riding waves with their longest being 15 seconds each! Incredible experience that all kids should do to learn safety and respect for the sea whilst having fun.

My family, one adult, 3 teenagers booked in with Russell for a private class. They loved it and all caught a wave and stood. They all spoke very highly of the instructor and had a great time.
I was the bystander, and was the one paying, we originally tried to book for 9am, only to be convinced that the weather would be better at 7am, and the waves would be more forgiving. I know that the weather changes but at 7am there was a strong offshore wind which made it very dumpy, i got the impression that it was not because of the weather they wanted us to change it was more abt what was convenient to them.
Also we booked for a 1 and half private lesson, and was asked to arrive 10 min beforehand. It was 7.15 before they hit the beach, was a little unorganised, and then returned at 8.15am. So really just under 1 hour for the lesson, with other time made up of administration.
When comparing like for like and value for money, it is good to know quality instructors, but time advertised includes administration.

Travelling to the Sunshine Coast from Sydney, one of my ambitious goals was to attempt surfing. I did not have any expectation of what this lesson would be like and it succeeded through the roof. I turned up to an early session, with the beautiful sun rising in the background and the instructor (Hamish) giving me a warm greeting. Coolum beach was beautiful. The water had the perfect waves and was at perfect temperature. There are bathrooms that were less than a 2 minute walk, and showers up the top of a small hill. I was provided with equipment including a rashie and a surfboard (there was even sunscreen available if you happened to forget to apply).
The instructor Hamish, was very understanding and patient. He taught me all the basics before we hit the water and even gave me knowledge about the best areas to swim and surf on the beach. I highly recommend Hamish.
I had a wonderful time, look forward to booking another lesson.

Had two fantastic days learning to surf. The instructor (Tom) was energetic and enthusiastic about teaching people to surf. The lessons were worth the money and worth the time and were not only productive but also enjoyable. The groups are a good size and there is plenty of 1 on 1 time with the instructor. Just remember to put sunscreen on your legs.

Had a family private surf lesson for two adults and two kids (6 & 9). Our instructor was fantastic (sorry forgotten his name). His explanation of how a rip works is the best I have heard to date, and the kids easily understood it. We had a great time, and it was relaxed, and so professionally run, you didnt even realise that there is a business behind it. They were just simple, professional and personal.
Will be doing it again!

Cannot rate them highly enough. We turned up pretty late and asked if they could do us a private lesson for three. The lady in the shop was as helpful as could be and rang around to find an instructor happy to take us out at 2.30pm.
The instructor was called Chris and he was amazing. My kids had done a beginner lesson before on the Gold Coast so I thought I knew what to expect but Chris was totally different. He gave a short speech on safety and how to work out the swells and rips. Then we had a short ten minute instruction on the correct positioning on the board and how to stand. After that we were into the waves. The surf looked huge on the day we were there but two of us were standing on our second waves using the guidelines we were given. The third member was a little less confident so Chris spent time with her getting her to stand for her first couple of waves. After that he pointed out any errors or adjustments we needed to make. He even noticed that our kids were surfing next to us and gave them some pointers as well as bringing them nearer to us for safety.
As gung-ho as I was, Chris patiently pointed out that while using the pot luck approach was fine, a more scientific method for getting on the board would be better in the long term. He helped me learn how to find balance on the board and what a difference a couple cms can make.
All three of us where very very satisfied with the lesson and cannot recommend them enough.
We got the best part of a two hour private lesson for $65!!! Each. A bargain compared to others around.
Don't hesitate if you are looking for surfing lessons on the Sunshine Coast. Book these guys.

We had a private lesson for our family of 4 who have never surfed. We are two middle aged adults and two teens. Tyler our coach was great - great job explaining surf characteristics, safety and the basic how to of surfing. We all got up on the boards fairly easily. Tyler did a great job of steadying the board as we took off, watching each of us and giving us advice for our next go. He was really encouraging. Highly recommend the lessons! Wear lots of sunscreen.

My sons are coming over to Coolum for a school camp from Singapore.they are aged 11 yrs. they would love to learn surfing ( it's part of their camp itenerary) but are very wary of surfing and injuring themselves. Is surfing safe for such young kids as they have never ever done that before though they are proficient swimmers?

Ranjini, yes it is very safe. My kids were (both girls) did the surfing lesson and they were aged 5 and 7 at the time. They loved it, and we loved it. A great experience and the people at the Coolum surf school were very professional!
