I booked the trip in Nov for the 1st weekend in Dec but rescheduled via email for the 3rd week in Dec due to poor weather conditions. I got a reply conformation and thought all was well. Drove the 1.5hrs to Wangratta and the owner had forgotten about our trip we had to call him. Instead of being apologetic was rude and blamed it on us rescheduling several times (not true at all). Whilst the kayaking was great and we had heaps of fun due to the owners manner would not book again especially as it isnt cheap.

Thanks heaps to David and Keith, we arrived at Wangaratta a day ahead of schedule and they went out of their way to help us out. There are a few blockages on the river after the recent storm but it’s mostly passable with a bit of excitement and a couple of hairy moments! Would make a great bucks party activity. Don’t take anything along that you want to keep 100% dry! Thanks again for your help getting us out of the water unscheduled and at short notice!

Absolutely fantastic day on the Ovens River with my main man. Super friendly service and equipment well maintained. The river was really beautiful and there were a few slightly thrilling parts. We stopped and had a picnic on a river bank. We had the river to ourselves the whole way. So peaceful. If you like the sound of birdsong, trees and water and nothing else-this is for you!

We were collected from Apex Park Wangaratta and driven downstream of the Ovens river. Our kayaking adventure was short, 7km. The river level was very low, we could have paddled (walked/waded in the water) for most of the adventure. The river is narrow. The kayaks regularly grounded, we had to get out and carry or push the kayaks along. There were many fallen trees and branches across river, sometimes across the whole width of the river, so we had to remove branches to get past. I really wanted to take my camera (I'm a hobby photographer) but the guy who dropped us off strongly advised against this, he expected we would tip the kayaks and roll over, he said most people do, but we didn't. But he insisted we take our mobile phone. Our packed lunch was good and the kayaks were in good condition.

My husband and I came especially to Wangaratta to do the Paddle for Picnic Tour. It was advertised as self-guided kayak adventure with a picnic and we were surprised by how great it was, the food and service was just fantastic, they have thought of everything to make it a cool little thing to do! It was a fantastic way to celebrate our 3rd wedding anniversary. Keith from River Tribe was very helpful and gave us lots of tips about the local area such as the best places to eat, sleep and visit and of course tips on where to go and what to see on our kayak trip. River Tribe provided us with everything we needed on the day including a gourmet picnic including Brown Brothers Prosecco, warm tarts and salad and even a couple of Bacci Kiss chocolates and even some information about the river history etc via a 2 page tour guide print out. We recommend the departure time of 11:30 as a good time of day for this adventure. We took our time as recommended by River Tribe and there are no additional charges for taking the kayaks for longer period - we just called Keith and he came and met us when we arrived on our kayaks... very easy and the extra time was appreciated. Thanks River Tribe for a great day out, really fun!
