    Well worth a visit
Visiting this old mining town is a must when in the Queenstown area. The old buildings are so interesting. A "must see" is the Chinese settlement portion of the village - so well restored with great information about the buildings, the previous inhabitants and their life on the diggings. We felt the shops in the village were a bit "high end," but there was certainly a great variety. The park near the river was lovely to sit in, but could do with more seats. Loads of parking in the village. Another "must see" is the local museum - what a treasure. So much history to see, well presented and researched, with lots of historical information. Something for both adults and children to enjoy. Easily spent 3-4 hours in the village.

    Day Trip
While my partner woke up with the birds to tackle the black runs at the Remarkables, I walked into town, purchased a $2 bus pass and hopped on and enjoyed the scenic ride out to Arrowtown for the day. You could make the day of it with a long lunch, but as we were going out to tea and had a sleep-in, my little half day of exploring was perfect. Once in the village I had a little explore by the river and Chinatown settlement and then made a focus on finding a good coffee. The art gallery/museum and a few tourist shops were included in the itinerary before lunch and heading back to Queenstown. Great for a slower kind of day if you have been busy skiing/snowboarding

Well worth stopping at if you’re close by
We had done tow other Historical towns and this was the last and the best. With more buildings in tact and the museum is brilliant and well worth the time at on $12.50 each. Lovely restaurants and bars as well as independent shops. Great atmosphere and well worth stopping to see.

    Quick stop - cute town
Stopped here for only an hour and squeezed in a 30 minute shaded trail walk and fast in and out through some shops in the main drag in town. Loads of restaurants which I did not try and excellent space aged modern bathrooms. If you are in the area it’s worth a stop as it has a little bit of a different feel since it used to be an old mining area. Some of the clothing shops are very expensive (500 NZ dollars for a blouse) and then you will find your typical souvenir stores. I’d allow 3 hours if you want a nice stroll, food and some shopping.

Quaint, well preserved, historical village within half hour of Queenstown
We recently visited Queenstown, and we were told by several of our tour guides to visit Arrowtown. As a person of Chinese descent, I appreciated the opportunity to review the historical Chinese portion of the village where the gold mine workers had settled. Arrowtown Village is picturesque, and it is well maintained and clean. Everything is walkable and in close proximity. The town has an excellent museum. There are options for dining and shopping, and it's a family-friendly atmosphere. The dining runs from snack foods such as ice cream to sandwich places and restaurants. The shopping includes boutiques, wine stores, and jewelry and souvenir shops. There are plenty of clean restroom facilities scattered throughout the village. Tip: You can catch the public bus from downtown Queenstown to Arrowtown if you are not renting a car. It's only a couple of NZ dollars, and the ride is around 25 minutes. Make sure you wear comfortable walking shoes and bring water.

Best to visit in the late afternoon/evening
Visit after the hordes of tour buses leave in the late afternoon. They have great restaurants, brew pubs and a cute little movie theater. During the day it is mobbed by tour bus groups

    Lovely small period town
Small but pleasant shopping street with Victorian shop fronts. Reconstructed Chinese township with really good info boards detailing the tough existence for Chinese gold miners. Much preferred to Queenstown which is so touristy and really set up as a tour/experience destination.

    Easy Walk
Arrowtown’s village is confined to two streets and covers one long block. Most of the shopfronts are heritage inspired and are not out of place. The shops cater for casual dining and refreshments with something for all tastes. Many of the shops offer New Zealand produce ranging from high end to budget items. It can get busy with tourists. A pleasant way to spend an hour or so. Beyond the main village centre are other buildings of interest including cottages and the Chinese settlement.

    First Time In Arrowtown
We arrived in Queenstown and hired a car. We decided to go for a drive and happened to head towards Arrowtown approximately 20 kilometres from Queenstown. As you drive through this place becomes a living painting with the mountains in the background and the trees with vibrant shades of gold, orange and red. The main street is lined with historic buildings left from the gold rush era and now have been transformed into clothing shops, cafes and restaurants. We found out that Arrowtown was a gold mining town located on the banks of the Arrow River.

    Lovely little town
Arrowtown is an historic gold mine town, with plenty of rustic charm. The main street has plenty to see and quite busy with tourists. There is also the river bed area to take a quieter walk. Well worth a visit to this town which is about 20 minutes from Queenstown.

Had a great day out. The museum is a must see as very extensive and uniquely presented array of items on display. The variety of shops and eateries caters for all tastes. The Chinese sector is very interesting and a testament to their pioneering spirit. If travelling from Queenstown for a day out the travel by bus using the B Card is excellent value with a good service. Enjoy.

Gorgeous little town to spend a day. We took a walk along the river before having coffee at one of the cafe's. Quaint little town full of history. Spent an hour or so in the museum which is well set up and full of interesting information about the towns gold mining roots.

We loved Arrowtown, with its quirky little houses and boutique shops. We loved the vibe of the Sweet shop was like going back a few decades. The Museum is certainly worth going to, such a cheap entrance fee for so much history and information about the area. Wonderful kiwi books to buy there. Great for young and old!!

We were really looking forward to our visit . We were disappointed to find a lot of the businesses closed. It was a Monday and signs seemed to indicate that a lot are closed Monday and Tuesday. Hard for people who travel a long way to find it like this . Those shops that were open would be there for people with a loaded wallet . Expensive shopping .

If you are in the Queenstown area Arrowtown is certainly worth the drive. It is an upscale little village with great shops. When we were there (December 27, 2022) it was busy, but not overwhelming and we easily found parking. The walk through the Chinese village area is lovely with large trees and a great path. There are a mix of shops, from the normal tourist fare to some lovely clothing and general New Zealand products. If you are looking for fine home decor several of the shops had some wonderful items.

As far as dining, we did not eat dinner. We did have have coffee and a sticky bun at Provisions. Provisions, is on the end of town away from the Chinese village and is often overlooked because it is not in the center of businesses. However, it is on the main street and a short walk from the center of town. The sticky buns are amazing and they do serve full meals. We enjoyed watching the barista grind the beans for our coffee while we waited and the care taken in preparing the coffee was evident when we took our first sip. To add to that the owner and staff were very congenial and seemed genuinely interested in our experience.

As a note, we had planed to go to the Chop Shop, which had been recommended to us. It closed at 3:00pm and as we just wanted coffee we arrived at 2:31pm. We were told that they do not take any orders (even for coffee) after 2:30pm. We were disappointed, but were rewarded by a great cup of coffee and a sticky bun at Provisions.

We had a lovely time wandering through Arrowtown village and wandering into the shops. We purchased a number of woollen clothes and bits and pieces - all reasonably priced which was good. After lunch we went down to the Arrow river - beautiful down there

Whenever we visit this area we always head for Arrowtown to check out its quirky feel and take in the ambience of this quaint town. Everyone in the shops and restaurants are friendly and welcoming and the museum, which incorporates an isite and shop is very interesting. The only slight downside is parking however with a little patience and possibly a short walk this is easily overcome.

The first immigrants came to New Zealand and stayed here and made this their home. Very clean village. Lots of shop around the village and food places are awesome. Don’t forget to visit the Remarkable Candy store while you are there.

The whole of ARROWTOWN VILLAGE is an historic & well preserved slice of the gold mining & later farming township that is only too evident with the buildings.
A superb picturesque street of quaint settlers cottages & stores that make Arrowtown a 'must visit'. We believe a more attractive option than Queenstown just 30 minutes or less further away.

If going to a town where busloads of tourists are dropped off to wander one main street with mostly tacky tourist shops, this town is for you. It was nice to see the trees on the nearby mountain changing colors, but that held our interest for about 5 minutes. We stopped here because it was close to the wineries that we were visiting that day. Dinner at La Rumbla was very good and made it worth the stop, but this is not a place I'd recommend to go out of your way to visit. There are many other more authentic places to visit.
