Fun in the frying pan

Great walks under the hammering sun. The Park is jointly managed by the Traditional Owners and the Parks and Wildlife Commission of the Northern Territory.

Watarrka National Park incorporates the much visited and Spectacular, Kings Canyon at the western end of the George Gill Range, Petermann Pound and also Kathleen Springs, located further along Luritja road, towards Kings Creek station at the southern end of the park. Stayed for 2 nights . Did helicopter ride then rim walk. Both invaluable experiences. Caravan park employees are exceptionally accommodating and helpful. Just make sure you plan and book early;so as you get a site.

The national park is fantastic, the scenery is breathtaking and well marked and maintained, there are a couple of walking tracks for all skill/fitness levels, all of which are excellent and worthwhile. The rim walk was the highlight by far, we started it at sunrise, was awesome to see the canyon walls changing with the sun rise. Would highly recommend... More

The Rim Walk starts with 500 uneven excruciatingly steep rock stairs straight up (no handholds or rails) the canyon wall - not an easy start (walking poles would have been an asset throughout the walk). However, once on the rim itself, the walk is manageable and most enjoyable. However, you are constantly climbing up and down throughout the whole walk.... More

We completed the Kings Canyon Rim Walk (6 km loop. Approx. 3-4 hrs duration). it was a really terrific hike which took us just about the 3.5 hours advertised. Amazing rock formations, change of flora and altitude and hiking conditions - definitely not monotonous. For additional information search for walks in Watarrka National Park

A visit to Kings Canyon is a must on any visit to Central Australia. The canyon itself is grand and spectacular. Do the canyon rim walk, but you have to start early in the morning

Whilst the main attraction is Kings canyon, Kathleen Springs is a relaxing walk just off the main road. A pretty little walk, easily accessible (for disabled as well) . good information signs about aboriginal and stockman history, as well as plants in the area.
