We stopped at Anbangbang Billabong (say that ten times fast without laughing) just over a week ago when we were exploring Kakadu National Park. We did the full hike that took about 60minutes at a leisurely pace, taking time to admire the birds, forests, giant rocks and keeping a wary eye out for crocodiles who are known to live in the area. We saw some crocs but most were interested in the birds in the water, not us thankfully. Nice easy hike for anyone of any skill level.

Lovely scenery and great variety of bird life including Eagles, jabiru, herons, Jesus birds and many more. Plenty of crocodiles add interest to this lovely area.

A beautiful sacred billabong which is located close to Nourlangie Rock Art. We were driving through the region & had just finished viewing all the spectacular rock art at Nourlangie when we noticed the sign to the Anbangbang billabong.
Although it was the start of the wet season we were still able to view the billabong without any difficulty. In the dry season its a 2.5km circular walk with Nourlangie forming an impressive backdrop.
The billabong area was extremely pretty with picnic tables , gorgeous gum trees depicting a truly magnificent Australian bush essence. I could have stayed here for ages taking in the striking Australian landscape & beauty; however a huge black afternoon cloud was developing which meant the landscape would be turning into a violent spectacular wet season down pour & we needed to move quickly.

We did an excellent two hour sunset boat tour and saw a lot of wildlife including birds and crocodiles. This tour is well worth doing and provides great photo opportunities.

We did the whole walk around, about 2.5 kms, which was great, but the most interesting viewing is between the various car parking spots just off the road. Plenty of bird life and water lillies.

Lovely picturesque place for a picnic lunch after Nourlangie. Didn’t take the walk but some tourists mentioned to us a croc was quite close to the path.

Recommend wearing inspect repellent before embarking on walk that took approx. 1 hour at leisure pace. Flat ground and easy to walk.

Just a short drive from Nourlangie Rock, this billabong captures the essence of a Kakadu wetland ! Beautiful vegetation and abundant birdlife. There is walking track around the edge, but we just enjoyed a cup of tea and the view !
