Really pretty venue and wines very good - they had some old vintages open including some old desert wines. Bottle from 2002 was lovely and not expensive. Was well worth the trip even on a rainy day

Yay - they are back open for business. The hostess here is the best, down to earth, and knowledgeable. Always fun, and respectful of our (lack of) knowledge. Great cellar door deals too!

Good variety of wine, the Alwyn Chardonnay was my favourite. Interesting history, lovable chocolate lab, nice setting.

Took a friend here as part of a 'winery tour'; the visit was a little disappointing as the service was a bit 'flat', the wine was alright but as the property was soon on the market I would suggest that operators were in a holding pattern. There is a lot of competition in Hawkes Bay and whilst Ngatarawa is a classic original it needs to lift its game.

During our tasting we discovered we were tasting the last of Ngatarawa wines as the vineyard had been sold to Mission Estates. So sad to see the end of hundreds of year of winemakers coming to an end. Excellent wines in a lovely setting. We tasted 6 wines - a Riesling, Sauvignon Blanc, Rose, Chardonnay, Syrah and Merlot Cabernet blend. Good Savignon Blanc, and super Chardonnay and Merlot Cabernet - really nice wines. Purchased a bottle of the 2010 Alwyn Merlot Cabernet. Well run tasting and would recommend a visit before the era comes to an end!

This was the third stop on a winery tour that was part of a cruise excursion. Picnic tables, nice breeze, and a fantastic pair of "guides" made this the perfect way to end our tour. Great wines, local ice cream, and their dog was a lover of affection!

The Ngatarava Winery gave us good tasting for free, and even more insight of the winery production. We managed to buy some bottles 2010 for the evening!

The Ngatarawa winery really is a place where beauty meets taste. The cellar door itself is located in former stables, adding a very interesting touch to the entire story of the establishment of Ngatarawa. We really enjoyed the little tour, the tasting and the environment as such. The estate is located in a pristine, quiet spot that only adds to the recreational value of the tasting, making this a very positive and cozy little spot to visit when in Hastings! Say hi to Ra from us :)

We arrived with 24 people in our tour and were met by our hostess. She was pleasant and gave us the history of the winery and then we had or tasting. We had 4 different wines accompanied with cheese and crackers, and then free ice cream made at the location. It was a good experience, and would recommend taking the wine country tour that hits 3 of the areas wineries.

One of our wine tasting stops with Grape Escape Tours was at the lovely Ngatarwa Winery. My hubby and I enjoyed the wine tasting (my favorite was the Pinot Noir). This family owned winery is set in a former stables and training grounds for English championship horses. The pastoral setting is just peaceful and lovely. Our tour guide (and tour owner) provided our group with some wine, fruit and cheese plate, served on the Ngatarwa picnic tables. It was a very nice touch and enjoyable way to spend an afternoon.

Does anyone know if this is an easy taxi ride from the cruise port in Napier? Thank you.

It's about 26 km, so doable if you want to do it. If you want to go to Hawke's Bay Wineries, there are others you might want to take in while you are in the cab to make it worth your while (for example, Mission Hill is lovely, great place to have lunch)

Just tasting, although I think you can buy a cheeseboard
