Our stay in the Merlot cottage was superb. Rows of vines, beautiful sculptures, a bevy of quails, acorns and olive trees and tasty wines.

I visited Craggy Range Winery today - for the last time. Previously visitors could buy a glass of wine, or bottle, along with a platter of cheeses, breads etc and sit out the back of the winery and relax in the sunshine. Very pleasant indeed. WELL - NOT ANYMORE!! Today we were greeted by a 20-something year old who, upon us asking for a table outside for a glass of wine and cheese platter (as per our last visit), we were informed that Craggy Range Winery were no longer letting visitors ‘just drink alcohol’ - instead we were to be ‘educated’ with a $35/head wine tasting. The lack of choice and the pretentiousness of this statement was quite a shock. Now I happen to have studied wine making and hubby is a successful wine collector- but according to Craggy Range - all guests need an “education”. So - after thinking about this offer for about 1 second - we got back in our car and drove to The Black Barn about 3 minutes away and enjoyed an ‘education free’ meal with wine and far better views! Hopefully Craggy Range reads this and provides options in future!

Thank you for taking the time to email us regarding your experience at the Cellar door last Saturday. We have two beautiful hospitality spaces for our Cellar Door & Restaurant and have chosen to keep each apart so that we might focus on the different offerings each have. For that reason, those wanting to dine, we have an a la carte menu served inside our Craggy Range Restaurant, however, for those who prefer a casual platter & relax with a glass of wine, we have the restaurant terrace. The restaurant terrace is kept for this purpose, with picturesque views overlooking our lake and vineyard all the while with the dramatic Te Mata peak in the back ground. Our Cellar Door for reserved tastings & learning. We offer several tastings with varying amounts of wine allowing our guests to learn as much or as a little as they wish while sampling our wine with our sommeliers. The tastings can be accompanied by the same platter served on the restaurant terrace & the fees are all waived with the purchase of wines. Our apologies if the different options were not conveyed to you. We hope you choose to visit us again and look forward to welcoming you back to enjoy our Craggy Range hospitality in the future. Kind regards The team at Craggy Range.

Had an amazing five course shared meal there. Loved the venue, the atmosphere, the food, the matched wine and the wait staff.
Just stunning. Highly recommend.

We visited here and were the only people doing a tasting however the atmosphere was that we were almost an inconvenience versus the friendly host at Te mata. The host was knowledgeable about the wine however it felt much more like we were ina production line rather then enjoying a tasting.

We booked into the cottage for a couple of nights and had a wonderful experience.
The cottage was 2 separate rooms both with their own ensuite and then a shared lounge with fire and kitchenette.
Lovely waking up amongst the vines.

The wine tasting was very competent and done outside at a picnic table. A knowledgeable host.
They have a very good range of wines.

Huge vineyard so was not expecting much... Been really impressed by the quality of the wine and the knowledge of Michael the sommelier.
Seated tasting in the garden, he brings the wines one by one, with each wine a lot of information and explanation. A lot is hand picked and with under 4 kg of grapes per vine, it gives some tasty wines! Recommend to stop there to discover more about the story and try some good wines.

A fine dining experience not to be missed. We chose the set menu with paired wines, every morsel and sip was simply delicious.
The restaurant is a stunning venue and staff were warm, friendly and attentive.
So pleased we chose this winery for our Hawkes Bay Vineyard dining experience.

Great spot with a fabulous view of the mountain range.

We thoroughly enjoyed sitting outside with wine and nibbles. It was fun to stroll through the vines as well.

Absolutely worth a visit.

I'm kicking myself for not remembering the name of the sommelier who conducted our wine tasting.
He was outstanding, and took the time to find out a bit of our background, then related the finer aspects of the wine to our backgrounds.
He took the time to tell us the ownership and history of the vineyard. A great story!
A must do on your wine tasting tour!

Went there for the tasting was able to sit out side on a lovely day (lovely place to do so) the Winetasting was a good experience the staff member would bring out the wines 1 by 1 in a well paced fashion explain each one in detail, was knowledgeable. There were several groups around us getting the same great service. We did not eat there though looking at the menu and food others did we may have missed a great eating experience.
