About
Situated on red metal soils in Hawkes Bay, New Zealand, Abbey Winery & Brewery is a boutique 'Single Estate' Winery owned and operated by the Haworth family. Abbey wines have an exclusive focus on producing smaller volumes of hand-picked ultra premium quality wine. The winery/brewery itself is a spectacular sight. Architecturally designed, this winery is our unique interpretation of a Gothic abbey.

What a shambles! Booked a table for 6 arrived to find no dedicated tables given (after standing in the queue for 20mins) Fortunately we managed to find the last one. Ordered at 1.15pm only to be told it was the last platter (sorry for all the others in the queue behind me).was told kids order of fries would take 40 mins. 1.5 hrs later it arrived only after I had chase it up! Others we spoke to left after there food had not arrived 2 hrs after ordering.

Vaccine passes required but never checked. Sign on door stated fully booked but clearly people disregarding this and still coming in.

This place has the potential with a bit of organisation to be great. This is our second visit and will sadly be our last due to the poor service.

We stopped here on our bikes and chose a ‘slide’ of 5 different wines all very generously poured for $15. You could also have the option of cider or beer or a mix of all. The antipasto platter that we had with it was generous and tasty. Lovely to speak to the owners too and enjoy some live music. A perfect spot to stay awhile and enjoy the ambience.

What a find Abbey Cellars is!
Located away from most of the other vineyards in Hastings this location is rather easy to skip and what a mistake that would be.

The location is a stunning church with gorgeous vineyards and a great play area for kids.

There’s regularly live music which can be enjoyed while sitting at the plethora of picnic tables.

Unlike most vineyards however these guys also have a great array of tastings not only of wine but also beer and cider all at a very reasonable price.

It’s a fantastic place to grab a yummy pizza and sit back with a drink or two listening to a range of classic tunes.

Last but not least you’ll get to meet this cutie pie Ash. He’s not the only cute male on the premises either!

Highly recommend

Went for lunch and a winetasting.
Lunch was dreadful, very limited choice, and only choices were an expensive platter of cheeses etc or Pizza, or kids food. We were hungry, and opted for a pizza and chips.
The pizza was the worst I've ever eaten, maybe from a freezer and topped with a sweet BBQ type sauce. We were hungry, but left most of it. The place needs to really look at their food menu and make dramatic changes, or even just close the restaurant and reopen it when they have a proper chef or good cook. We were visiting with family from Australia, and enjoy nice food combined with nice wine, which is available in many wineries in Australia.
They could easily offer cheese platters for less than $80!
The wine was lovely, but we also were not accustomed to paying for 4 taste glasses, however, we did buy a few bottles.
My advice is, eat before you go!

Have been a couple of times over recent weeks. Very much one of our preferred wineries with excellent wines, good service, friendly people and a nice setting. We all enjoy their wines which are very reasonable in price. The food is always good although I now prefer to not have their pizzas due to cheese causing problems. But there's other options so I'm happy.
We don't generally have the beer or the new gins but have enjoyed a beer in the past
Highly recommended (and we're happy the cruise ships aren't around at the moment to fill the place up - our bonus but maybe not for the winery - sorry)

Visited here as part of a trip from a cruise ship. Arrived about 9.30am to a warm welcome and a glass of wine. For the next hour, the hosts mingled amongst us talking abou the winery and liberally topping our glasses up with different wines. Cheese and nibbles were available to. The wines were excellent and available to buy. The setting was very pretty and it was a shame when we had to leave.

Arrived at 3:55 pm with a group of friends after cycling around for the day. Had expressly arranged to come here last as heard great things. As we were waiting in line behind our friends the clock ticked past 4pm and they refused to take any food orders. This meant that 1/2 of the group did not get any food and the other 1/2 did. Flippin ridiculous. Would not ever come here again. Such exceptionally bad customer service.

I'm not sure who you arranged with, as we weren't notified of your group at all. Our Lunch service goes from 11am to 4pm. Our last booking is 3:30 and kitchen shuts at 4pm. So we do have a 30 minute window for late orders. If you're coming for lunch, it's probably best to come at lunch time. 90% of the cyclists come around 12-1pm. If you want to enjoy a place, it's best not to come at the end of a day, unless for a quiet beer or wine, as it's all winding down. Cheers,

Great venue, but try to get served what a mission. Need to improve their system somewhat, streamline their system would hopefully endure you don’t spend 20 minutes in a queue. Otherwise an enjoyable time at their summer events.

Very disappointing with Abbey Wines.
Went for lunch and next table customers started smoking 2 metres away.
Asked reception staff if okay to smoke at tables. Told us to “ find another table as it is okay to smoke at their winery”. Absolute disgrace. They were not prepared to ask them to stop smoking in eating area. We will not be going back. With NZ wanting to be smoke free within the next few years this is a totally unacceptable response from what should be a responsible corporate business.

We dropped in on Sunday afternoon for a bottle of wine and a platter. The place was buzzing and we were treated to some live music. Great was to spend a Sunday afternoon. The platter was fantastic and very generous serving and the Rose was delicious. The resident dog Ash was well behaved and we loved seeing him cruising round saying hello to everyone. It is a family affair running the business and had a lovely chat to the owner who was humble and entertaining. Great place to stop in for some great food and wine and friendly welcoming service.
