About
We welcome wine lovers to our rustic Cellar Door. Our winery is a true family owned, boutique operation. We make organic wines from our own grapes, the fruit is hand picked and wines are made on site. We are just about the wines at Stonecroft, so if you're not a wine lover our cellar door may seem a bit boring! Stonecroft produced the first Syrah in New Zealand and visitors can view the original row of vines planted in 1984. We grow Viognier, Chardonnay, Gewurztraminer Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and even Zinfandel.

Small winery with some interesting wines.
Zinfandel for some reason - average really.
Some of the oldest Syrah in the country.
You will be hosted by the owner.

Interesting varieties like Zinfandel or some 100%cab franc. The undressed range is more natural and need a bit of time to open up but interesting to try. The dessert wine was different, enjoyed it. Good discovery. Probably not wine to age but to enjoy now.

I organised a group tour, and included this on the itinerary as the winery is organic, and thought it would be interesting for our group to visit.
We were not disappointed, our host who was one of the owners, was only to happy to share her knowledge and provide us the history of the winery.
The surprise to me, was that this winery was tbe first to plant Syrah vines, and propogated them for other vineyards.
Some very different styles of wine, of which we purchased some.

We visited on a lovely and warm Hawkes Bay afternoon. The wines here are very nice and reasonably priced. The host was very knowledgeable and encouraged us to work through his range of wines. This vineyard is well worth a visit.

We were aware of some of their wines. Worthwhile visiting but the experience was just average. No real enthusiasm regarding the wines available.

There are some really nice wines to try (and buy here). I usually try and visit here when I’m in the Hawkes Bay. They produce the only Zinfandel in the area and I have bought a few over the years, the current vintage didn’t quite hit the spot for me this time but I thought the serine Syrah was excellent (and I got a bottle of this). Also good to note all the wines are organic.

Love wine? you will love Stonecroft! We tasted wines from across their range, from the Reserve Syrah (made from the historic first Syrah vines planted in the Gimblett Gravels) to the distinctive Viognier and luscious Old-Vine Chardonnay, and we found wines of complexity and elegance. Our gracious cellar-door host was knowledgeable and generous with her time and her wines. It was a very rewarding visit and we left with bottles that we know we should keep - but can't resist!

If you are a wine lover then Stonecroft is a must on your agenda. With passionate winemakers and beautifully crafted wines what's not to love?
Stonecroft offer much more than your standard NZ wines. If you like red the syrah is gorgeous.
They are very reasonably priced too.
Do go!

We arrived about 20 minutes from closing and our group immediately sensed a lack of enthusiasm that our group of 5 were not really welcome at this hour. We were looking forward to our visit to this small producer as we had heard good things. Our group all experienced in the wine trade visits a different region every 6 months and we were pleased to include Stonecroft in our itinerary. The presentation of the wines lacked enthusiasm and was rushed. This resulted in a lack of enthusiasm to purchase by most of out group... As a Zinfandel enthusiast I particularly enjoyed their 2017 Gimblett Gravels 'Zinnie' and made a purchase of a few bottles.. I have now recently enjoyed a bottle with friends and all enjoyed it immensely. I will cellar the remaining bottles for years to come as this wine show great potential for the future.

Love Stonecroft chardonnay. Trip from Auckland and will always make an effort to call in there. You won't regret calling in
