Diamond engagement rings, custom design wedding jewellery, dress rings, bracelets, pendants, brooches and silverware that offer pure contemporary lines and sculptural elegance have become the trademarks of the Jens Hansen workshop. All the jewellery is handcrafted, original, precious and crafted 'to be worn'. This simple philosophy rewards us with creative pieces that we all can embrace, afford and love, and was also the reason Peter Jackson asked Jens Hansen to design and make the ring depicted on screen as The One Ring™ for his film version of J. R. R. Tolkien's famous The Lord of the Rings™books.HistoryEstablished in 1968The Jens Hansen Gold and Silversmith Workshop was borne from passion of creativity and experimentation. The first Nelson workshop, set up in 1968, was in the front room of the family home at 8 Alton Street. This quickly became a centre for the local arts community, where Jens's talent, energy, enthusiasm, and outspoken personality drew people in from all over the world, and where Jens trained, worked with and influenced many of New Zealand's leading contemporary jewellers.Meet the Business Owner: Halfdan H.Halfdan is Jens Hansen's elder son, and has been director of the store for the last five years. He is committed to continuing his father's legacy, particularly when it comes to the Movie Ring that his father Jens and brother Thorkild worked on for the original The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

We visited the One Ring maker as part of a LOTR tour of New Zealand. Our group was fortunate to hear about the making of the rings, and we got to see many of the rings designed for the movies. Of course we couldn't help but purchase The Precious for ourselves, and my husband and I both came away with... More

Being LOTR fans we couldn't resist visiting Jens Hansen. The service we received there from Lee-Anne was above and beyond. The store was quite busy and she managed to still give personal care to making a choice (with the range being another excellent aspect of the store). I wasn't a standard size for the ring I purchased and we were... More

This is definitely a must-visit place for Lord of the Rings enthusiasts. Jens Hansen is the maker of the One Ring. I went with a tour group, so we were able to go back into the workshop and hear from the ring maker himself. The jewelry was beautiful and I purchased a lovely sterling silver necklace inscribed with two Tolkien... More

I bought a silver charm for my charm bracelet. It was added to the bracelet within an hour. When I returned to collect it, not only had the bracelet been cleaned , but a valuation form for the charm had been included, as well as a travel pouch. Awesome Shop Assistant. Thankyou

I discovered Jens Hansen perhaps a year ago, on internet, and I instantly fell in love with their work. A few weeks ago, I decided that it was time for me to get my own ring from them, and I chose Viggo's. First of all, thank you for your incredible communication and kindness. I got it customised, and I always... More

I saw 'The Nelson Ring' on facebook and discussed it with my partner, we both loved it so I emailed Tania from Jens Hansen and very easily organised to have a silver ring in my size put away until I got to Nelson nz some months later. Well I arrived in Nelson and we visited their store and picked up... More

The Jens Hansen team is the best; a great design and first class service to match. I purchased my One Ring online from the US. I took my time researching the website, asking questions about the ring, and Tanya was with me every step of the way. She prompltly answered questions, sent pictures, and arranged for a Catholic priest to... More

Friendly staff are obviously used to the LOTR fans coming by to gawk at the movie themed jewelry, and it is lovely. Well worth a visit if you are a fan, or if you are in the market for some high end jewelry. Otherwise, it's a relatively small shop and make not be for everyone. Glad we popped in.

Nice little shop with the well lived/worked in look. Maker of the "Ring" and taking full advantage of it well so would I. All the Lord of the Rings stuff aside he is a talented Goldsmith so If you need something made he can help.

I cannot describe my satisfaction with Jens Hansen. Very patient. Very understanding and kind. The rings we purchased were perfect. When one didn't fit quite right, they resolved it with certainty; everything was reassured - it will fit this time, and if for some reason it does not, they will get it right. Absolutely beautiful. I love this ring almost... More
