This is a nice small museum about the early settlers in the Nelson area. I really enjoyed the displays and information on the people that came to this part of the country and the information on the many hardships they experienced to make the area what it is today. They also address the issue of the native people that were... More

The museum is not big but it has a good collection that gives an insight into early Nelson and the early years. They have a good photo collection but the expert is not on site to assist with what is not readily available.

Interesting history of Nelson. I learned a lot about how it was settled and what the pioneers must have dealt with in those difficult but exciting times

This museum has exhibits relating to a good variety of topics and would be interesting to many people. Well laid out, with lots of information.

I enjoyed this museum much more than I expected! I think the focus on the experience of local people helps bring the past to life in a way that some of the national museums fail to achieve.

I was looking forward to learning more about the city of Nelson so I was really disappointed with this museum. To me, they tried a bit too hard. The individual displays had some interest but there was no overall flow or unity to the museum as a whole. The result is a disjointed set of exhibits from which it is... More

The Provincial Museum is a great way to observe the development of the Nelson region though straight forward displays.

The museum is excellent and there are a couple of exhibits upstairs concerning All Blacks who had fought in the war, with videos, photos and well written excepts from individuals, as well as a famous murder case (the murder of Maungatapu) that had occurred in the area. Again very informative. Well worth $5.

The history is well laid out over the ground floor. The story telling is excellent with great pictures and videos. There is a lot to see and read and only five dollars each. The only odd thing was the continuous playing of and extinct bird sign that really gets on your nerves otherwise really good
